Yamaha R3 & MT-03 To Be Sold As CBU?
Earlier this year, Yamaha India confirmed that it'll launch it's middle-weight sportsbike R3 & MT-03 in 2023. Now, with the year-end approaching, online reports are suggesting that both these models will debut in December. However, Yamaha will bring them via the CBU route. Hence, the pricing of both models shall remain premium as we expect. Both of these bikes will be based on the same 321cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine. This engine will also be tuned as per the latest BS6 emission norms in India. The outright power it makes is 42 bhp. Also, both bikes will get features like LED lights, a TFT colour display, Bluetooth connectivity, ride modes, traction control, etc.
As the R3 is a sports bike with a bit relaxed riding position, it'll primarily rival the new Aprilia RS457 & the KTM RC390. Meanwhile, the MT-03 is a naked sports bike with a relaxed city-friendly riding stance. It is bound to compete with the new KTM 390 Duke & the TVS Apache RTR 310. But, due to the CBU route, we suspect that the R3 will cost upwards of Rs 4 lakh while the MT-03 might plunge upwards of Rs 3.5 lakh. Also, Yamaha will sell both of these models via the premium Blue Square dealer network.
Verdict
The middle-weight sports bike segment of India has recently seen a lot of new entrants. The sales of this segment is consistently rising & Yamaha wants to acquire a big chunk of it. Hence, the R3 & MT-03 seem to be the best choices to offer at first. Maybe in the coming future Yamaha might also launch the R7 in the Indian market. But, it'll only happen once the R3 & MT-03 satisy the sales mark for Yamaha. We hope to ride both of these models by the end of this year.
