Yamaha R3 & MT-03 Launch Time
In a recent media interaction, the Chairman of Yamaha India, Mr Eishin Chihana confirmed that the R3 & MT-03 will debut in this fiscal year. As per the online report, Yamaha has been receiving tremendous requests for these models. In fact, there are buyers who are willing to pay in advance just to get their hands on these 321cc models. The R3 is a sharp-handling sports tourer while the MT-03 is its naked cousin. These can be sought as the R15 V4 & the MT-15 siblings. However, the peak power this engine produces is much higher. The parallel-twin engine is liquid-cooled and it makes 42 PS of peak power.
Speaking further, Eishin said " After some years, those (YZF-R3 and MT03) customers will need another step-up bike and we can introduce limited numbers of R7 and MT-07. Between 2023 and 2030, we can prepare this step-up structure for new customers. This will be our key focus where stylish, sporty, and exciting bikes will fuel aspiration".
The above statement also clarified that the R7 & MT-07 are also on their way to India. However, these models will only debut in limited numbers and that too only post-2023. Meanwhile, Yamaha India will monitor the response it gets on the 321cc lineup. Hence, the R7 & MT-07 fate will depend on the sales figures of the R3 & MT-03 themselves. Mind you, there have been online rumours that some dealerships have begun undertaking unofficial bookings for the R3 itself.
Verdict
Yamaha has been long due-in terms of updating its lineup in India. In fact, rivals like KTM have already updated their products multiple times. Also, the absence of bigger middle-weight bikes like R3 has made the image of Yamaha faint in India. Now, with the addition of these new models, Yamaha aims to revive its sports bike game. We anticipate that the R3 & MT-03 duo will debut by Diwali'23 in India with a price tag of upwards of Rs 3.5 lakh. The main rival of the R3 will be the KTM RC 390 & Kawasaki Ninja 300 while the MT-03 will compete with KTM 390 Duke & BMW G 310 R.
