Renault Triber AMT - Five Things We Like And Two Things We Don't

In our fourth episode of Five things we like about our car and Two things we don't, we share our deed about the Renault Triber AMT. Yes, the 5+2 seater car got our attention when it was first launched, however, it was the clutch-free gearbox which was our 91Wheels member for four long days. Everything including from space, mileage, looks we like about this car but there are some shortcomings and if Renault improves it then it might be the best affordable 7 seater car. Let's discuss the things which we like about Triber first:

Five Things We Like About The Renault Triber AMT

Design

Renault Triber AMT

This car is more than just the extended Kwid and really looks attractive. Be it the design of the alloy wheels or the chrome sills on the front grille or the sloping roofline, the Triber will surely catch your attention. All the elements are well proportioned and nothing looks out of the space. Even the LED DRLs looks in the frame and not like the aftermarket ones.

Space

Let's call it as a 5+2 seater car as the last row can be removed as a whole or even can be configured in a way that it is a 5+1 seater or a 5-seater car. Renault has done an excellent job for both front and middle-row passengers. As you can see from the video, Bunny is 6ft tall and has adjusted the front driver seat according to his height. Even then when he steps in the middle row, he has an ample amount of legroom and headroom.

Also, when all three people are seated then for short rides one cannot complain about the lack of space on this one. Sure, when the bad roads are in place then passenger sitting in the last row might complain but that's it. Our thought is that the last row is well reserved for the children mostly.

Features

Be it comfort, convenience or safety, the Triber is a feature-loaded car. It is the only affordable car under Rs 7.50 lakh which gets a Smart Access Card. What it does is that you can keep the card in your pocket and it locks and unlocks the doors when you are near the Triber. This comes in handy when you have heavy shopping or grocery bags and you can't really take out your car keys. This ensures that you can just grab the door handle and open it.

Another addition is the inclusion of an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment unit which provides Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as connectivity features. Also, the screen showcases the average speed, average consumption and the driving score. This info is available on the instrument cluster and the infotainment screen too.

The safety features on this car include four airbags, ABS with EBD, high-speed alert system, front seat belt reminder, rear parking sensors, reverse camera for higher variants and among others. Overall, Triber is an excellent package.

Dynamics

Even though it is a 5+2 seater car, it measures well under 4 metres. The steering is so light that it feels a breeze to drive in the daily traffic condition. Or it comes in handy when you have to park it in tight spaces. It is easily manageable in the day to day driving. For enthusiasts, it might not be the most fun to drive car.

Price

Another major factor which plays a key role in the Triber is its price. It starts from Rs 4.99 lakh and fetches till Rs 7.30 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. It provides good cabin layout, additional 2 seats, good features and is priced well below its competitors like the Maruti Swift or Hyundai Grand i10 Nios.

Two Things That We Don't Like About The Renault Triber AMT

1.0L Engine

Believe me, had the engine been a turbocharged or a 1.2L four-cylinder motor, it would have been enjoyable to drive. But this three-cylinder engine really runs out of breath on high speeds, and it struggles on the incline.

Also, when you reverse the car, it really uses some good force and creates a thud noise before jolting itself up for the action needed. We would really want to drive the Triber with all 7 people on board and luggage stuffed up at the back to see how it performs with this current motor. Either a turbocharged with the 1.0L engine or a 1.2L four-cylinder motor is a must on the Triber. Renault will most likely bring a turbo unit to the Triber.

Suspension

Another shortcoming of the Triber is its suspension and comfort levels. Sit in the last row and you will experience the real discomfort of how bad the suspension of the car is. Drive on a tarmac road then you're fine but even the slightest of the roads make you feel uncomfortable. One good thing Renault did was silently upgrading the tyres from 165 mm to 185 mm which helps the Triber holding the ground with that added width.
