In terms of design, the motorcycle maintains the overall aesthetic of its previous 2V version, but gets some subtle alterations. The headlamp now boasts a sharper appearance, and the fuel tank extensions have been given a more angular shape, enhancing its sporty appeal. The side profile showcases minimal stickers, with Xtreme branding adorning the fuel tank and 4V labeling on the engine shroud. Notably, the PRO variant we had features a split seat layout, while the other two variants are equipped with a single seat design. Another notable addition to the Xtreme 160R 4V is the reverse LCD instrument cluster.

Furthermore, the brand has opted for a golden hue for the engine overhead compartment casing. Additionally, it is now equipped with new switchgears that gives a more premium appearance.

Hero Xtreme 160R 4V - Engine Performance

While retaining its 163.2cc single-cylinder engine, the motorcycle has undergone enhancements, including the addition of two additional valves and an oil cooler. This update has led to a power boost, resulting in an output of 16.9 PS and a peak torque of 14.6 Nm. The engine configuration remains paired with a 5-speed transmission, albeit with refined gear ratios for improved performance. s.

Speaking of performance, the engine has been finely tuned to deliver improved refinement, with the incorporation of the 4-valve setup. This refinement becomes noticeable as you ride. Additionally, the motorcycle effortlessly attains higher speeds and exhibits quick acceleration, making reaching triple-digit speed with an almost effortless manner. The revised gear ratios, characterized by shorter gearing, contribute to the engine's tractability. As a result, minimal effort is required when pulling away from standstill traffic or revving the engine on open stretches of road. Gear shifts are seamlessly integrated, allowing you to smoothly accelerate from 25 km/h even while in 4th gear, removing the worries of stalling.

Hero has kept the motorcycle's commuter-friendly nature, ensuring a satisfying experience within the range of 6,000 RPM. Its optimal performance zone comes around 5,000-5,500 RPM, where the motorcycle remains remarkably smooth, without any vibrations, and features well managed NVH (Noise Vibration & Harshness) levels. However, once you surpass the 6,000 or 7,000 RPM threshold, a change becomes evident. While not immediately sluggish, vibrations start to come on the handlebars and foot-pegs, giving a need for a 6th gear. The motorcycle effortlessly reaches speeds of 110-115 km/h.

Hero Xtreme 160R 4V - Ride & Handling

In terms of hardware upgrades, a noteworthy addition is the incorporation of new 37mm KYB USD front forks. At the rear, the motorcycle features a 7-step adjustable Showa mono-shock absorber. This enhanced hardware configuration contributes to a more stable and comfortable riding experience. The USD front suspension adeptly absorbs almost every minor pothole and road undulation, providing a smooth journey. I tested the motorcycle on uneven surfaces, and the suspension system on both ends is finely tuned to deliver an overall plush ride. However, dynamics shift at higher speeds the rear suspension exhibits a softer response, causing a rebound effect, while the front end remains consistently effective.

Hero Xtreme 160R 4V

Hero Xtreme 160R has earned a reputation for its impressive dynamics, a trait retained in the 4V variant as well. The motorcycle maintains its stability at high speeds, and does not loose its line. It gives confidence while navigating through curves and easily maneuverable in city traffic. The front tire, measuring 17 inch alloy wheels on both ends offer secure grip, removes the sense of slipping and loosing grip. Negotiating curves feels effortless, and the motorcycle remains composed in nearly all scenarios. Regarding braking, the bike continues to feature a single-channel ABS system paired with front and rear disc brakes. At urban speeds of up to 80 km/h, these brakes perform good. However, once the bike accelerates to 100 km/h, the braking confidence diminishes slightly, needing increased pressure on the brakes to achieve effective stopping.

Verdict

Undoubtedly, the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V stands out as a worthy contender within its segment. It offers various variants to cater to diverse consumer preferences, starting at a base price of Rs 1.27 lakh and extending up to Rs 1.36 lakh (Ex-showroom). However, this pricing appears relatively high when compared with its key competitors like the TVS Apache 160 4V and the Bajaj Pulsar N160. Additionally, it's worth noting that the motorcycle lacks dual-channel ABS, a feature present in the Pulsar N160.

Should You Buy It?

For those seeking a hassle-free and sporty riding experience, the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V presents an appealing option. It combines comfort, enhanced refinement, commendable features, and straightforward handling. Opting for a Hero motorcycle also grants the advantage of reduced concerns regarding maintenance, service expenses, and availability of replacement parts.
