Jawa 42 Engine and Performance

The Jawa 42 sources its power from a 294.72cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine. Derived from the Mahindra Mojo, the powerplant on offer is heavily tuned to the retro motorcycle. It generates a maximum power output of 27.33 bhp and a peak torque of 27.02 Nm. The engine is potent enough to supply the needed grunt during both city commutes and highway cruising. However, the Jawa has done a good job in terms of engine refinement, but vibrations on the higher revs are evident on this motorcycle. As for the transmission, you get an ordinary 5-speed gearbox that provides near to smooth gearshifts.

Jawa 42 Hardware

In terms of hardware too, the Jawa 42 has nothing special or modern to showcase which goes with its retro appeal. Based on the reliable and time-tested double cradle frame, the motorcycle offers enough stability and toughness. The suspension duties of the Jawa 42 are handled by hydraulic forks at the front twin shock absorber at the rear end. For braking, you get a 200mm disc at the front and a 240mm disc at the rear side with a single channel Anti Braking System (ABS) as standard. All in all, the braking and suspension setup impresses by handling the job efficiently, ultimately providing a sense of confidence to the rider.

Design

To me, the Jawa 42 seems heavily inspired by the old-school classic Jawa of the 90's. It features a round headlamp, tear-shaped fuel tank and spoked wheels (Alloys on higher trims) that exude a proper OG classy look. For a modern feel, the motorcycle also has some blacked-out components and a digital instrument console as well. In simple words, the Jawa 42 looks a proper retro in a modern avatar.

Jawa 42 Features and Technology

Jawa 42 Features

Despite its proper retro existence, the retro motorcycle offers modern features. The entry-level and mid-variants of the motorcycle get a semi-digital instrument cluster while the higher trims feature a fully digital instrument cluster that misses out on the smartphone connectivity. For the lighting, you get a halogen headlight, hazard lights and the conventional bulb-type indicator and tail lights.

Ergonomics and Comfort

Jawa 42

The Jawa 42 retro motorcycle offers a comfortable upright riding position which is suitable for long rides as well. The handlebars and footpeg positioning on the motorcycle are really good for the rider. Also, the seats are so well-padded that they won't make you feel uncomfortable. Apart from this, the lower seat height makes the Jawa 42 ideal for short riders.

Variants and Price

Available in 9 variants in total, the Jawa 42 currently starts at Rs. 1.72 lakh for the base 1 Channel-spoke and goes up to Rs. 1.98 lakh for the top-end 2-channel Alloy dual-tone variant.

While the hardware and design stay true to its vintage roots, its comfort and refined ride make it a compelling option for those seeking a stylish, classic motorcycle with practical usability.
