What Makes The MG Windsor Popular?

The MG Windsor made quite the waves when it was launched in India, and there are various reasons for it. MG spread the word around that it is a CUV; a crossover utility vehicle, which made sense, considering that it has an almost MPV-ish, oddball design that helps it stand out on Indian roads, especially in a sea of SUVs.

The Windsor's pricing and buying scheme for sure made the next big impact. MG Motor India introduced the 'Battery As A Service' scheme with the Windsor, which we shall explain. Essentially, if you opt for the BaAS scheme, you can buy the car at a price of Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom). MG will then charge you for the battery cost separately, on a pay-per-usage model. Based on that, you will have to pay a nominal fee of Rs 3.5 per km.
If you would rather buy the car normally, you have that option as well, as MG offers the Windsor in three different variants; the Excite, Exclusive, and Essence, priced at Rs 13.99 lakh, Rs 14.99 lakh, and Rs 15.99 lakh respectively (all prices ex-showroom).

The interiors of the MG Windsor are also another talking point; the rear bench, which reclines up to 135 degrees, is meant to mimic the feel and comfort of the seats you'll usually see in a business-class flight. These interiors are spacious, with a good amount of legroom and headroom on offer, which is also possibly why it has proven to be successful among buyers.

The Windsor EV also comes with a fixed-glass roof which cannot be opened, and while a lot of the functions can be accessed only via the 15.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system, it fights back via a heavily-loaded equipment list such as a Jio app store with pre-installed games and OTT content, six-way powered driver seat, ventilated front seats, flush-fit door handles, a 9-speaker sound system, a 360-degree camera, cornering lights, rain-sensing wipers, automatic headlamps with follow-me function, five customizable themes for the infotainment screen, six-language voice commands including Hinglish, 256-color ambient lighting and a lot more.
Verdict
The Windsor EV packs in many brilliant qualities that have made it popular among buyers, and while some of its rivals have had repeated niggles highlighted on social media, the Windsor EV has not had too many such reported problems yet. The fact that MG also gives you options to choose from conventional buying to BaAS further adds to the flexibility factor.
