Hyundai recently launched the all-new i20 in the Indian market. The i20 is now in its third-generation avatar and it is leaps and bounds better than its predecessor. It looks really very striking, gets multiple powertrain options and is loaded with features up to the gills. However, everything comes at a cost and with a starting price of Rs. 6.79 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi, the new-gen i20 is not the most affordable in its segment. But, to lure the buyers who are on a tight budget and still want this premium hatch, Hyundai will soon launch the new Era variant of the 2020 i20. Here we have for you all the details about it.
According to the recent media reports, Hyundai has registered the new Era variant of the i20. The new base-spec model of this premium hatchback has been registered at an RTO hinting its imminent launch. While the new-gen Hyundai i20 gets three BS6-compliant engine options with five different transmission options, the upcoming base-spec Era model will get the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine only. This 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol motor churns out 83 PS of power (88 PS of power with IVT) and 115 Nm of torque. The engine comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox and an IVT (CVT). However, the base-spec Era variant will get the 5-speed manual gearbox only to make it very affordable.

Apart from the 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine, the new i20 also gets a 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor and a 1.5-litre diesel engine. The turbo petrol motor comes mated to a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission) and a 6-speed iMT (intelligent manual transmission). The 1.5-litre diesel, on the other hand, gets a 6-speed manual gearbox only. The new i20 is currently offered in four variants - Magna, Sportz, Asta and Asta (O). The top-spec variants are very feature-loaded and the base-spec Magna trim also gets a ton of features. However, the new upcoming 2020 Hyundai i20 Era variant will miss out on several types of equipment.
The new most affordable base-spec Era variant of the 2020 Hyundai i20 will weigh around 80 kilograms lighter than the other 1.2-litre petrol variants. It will most likely miss out on rear AC vents, rear power windows, 2-din audio system, multi-function steering wheel, MID (multi-information display), electrically-adjustable ORVMs (outside rear-view mirrors), keyless entry, etc. However, it will still get all the basic safety features like ABS with EBD, reverse parking sensors, dual-front airbags, high-speed alert system, seat belt reminders, etc. It will get basic essential features too such as a manual air conditioner, power steering, front power windows, remote locking, etc.
