Mahindra Marazzo is a fantastic MPV from the house of the Bombay-based Indian Utility Vehicle Giant - Mahindra. The Marazzo was first launched in the Indian market in September 2018 and at that time, it was considered as the Best Mahindra Ever! However, back then it was BS4-compliant and the upgraded BS6-compliant version of this MPV was launched in the country just a couple of months ago. The new Mahindra Marazzo is a proper MPV and though no doubt it is a very good vehicle, its sales numbers have been consistently low. So, today in this article, we will be telling you what are the positives and negatives of the Marazzo. Here, we have for you the Top Five Pros and Four Cons of the new 2020 Mahindra Marazzo BS6.
2020 Mahindra Marazzo BS6 Pros and Cons
Pros
Spacious Cabin and Genuine Seven / Eight Seater MPV
Mahindra Marazzo is a very spacious MPV. It gets oodles of space inside the cabin and is available both as a seven-seater as well as an eight-seater MPV. The seven-seater version gets two captain seats in the middle row while the eight-seater version gets a bench seat. Also, all thanks to its 2760 mm long wheelbase, the MPV has enough room for all the three-row of passengers. Thus, it is truly a genuine seven / eight-seater MPV and its other dimensions and capacity are mentioned in the table below:
Specification | Mahindra Marazzo |
Length | 4585 mm |
Width | 1866 mm |
Height | 1774 mm |
Wheelbase | 2760 mm |
Ground Clearance | 200 mm |
Boot Space | 190-litres (with all three-row seats up) |
Fuel Tank Capacity | 45-litres |
Safest Made in India MPV currently on Sale in the Country
The new Mahindra Marazzo is the Safest Made in India MPV currently on sale in the country. The Marazzo has bagged an impressive 4 Star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash test. The MPV has been awarded 4 Star safety rating for the adult occupant protection and 2 Star rating for the child occupant protection. Also, talking about its safety scores, so the new Mahindra Marazzo MPV has scored 12.85 points out of 17 points for the adult occupant protection and 22.22 points out of 49 points for the child occupant protection.
Good Diesel Engine
Mahindra Marazzo is currently available with a sole oil-burner only and this diesel engine offers good performance. The Marazzo is powered by a new BS6-compliant 1.5-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged diesel engine. This diesel motor churns out 123 PS of maximum power at 3500 RPM and 300 Nm of torque between 1750-2500 RPM. The engine comes mated to a six-speed manual gearbox only. The Marazzo's diesel engine is very torquey and it offers good performance both in the city as well as on the highways. However, it needs to be mentioned that with full seven or eight passengers on-board, it feels slightly underpowered on the highways and the twisties.
Decently Feature-loaded and Exceptional Ride Quality
The new Mahindra Marazzo is one of the very few Utility Vehicles from Mahindra which have an exceptional ride quality. The Marazzo drives really well and it offers a plush ride quality. The suspension of this new MPV has been tuned on the softer side and it absorbs all the bumps and potholes of the roads, thereby offering a great in-cabin experience and it can be driven easily on the rural roads and broken patches too. However, again it needs to be mentioned that being an MPV that weighs around 1700 kgs and rides high, it has a lot of body roll and you have to get used to it.
Next, talking about features, so the Mahindra Marazzo gets a very premium cabin and is decently loaded with kit. The Marazzo has a very silent cabin and taking the centre stage of its dashboard is a new 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system. This system is compatible with both Android Auto as well as Apple CarPlay. The Marazzo gets dual-tone black and beige interior and it also gets a piano black finish on the dashboard. Talking about other features, it gets an analogue instrument cluster with purple illumination, roof-mounted AC vents for all three rows, Mahindra's new Blue Sense app compatibility and many more features.
Affordable Pricing
Pricing always plays a major factor in our purchasing decision of a car and the company has hit the right mark even in this department. Thanks to the aggressive pricing of the MPV, the new Mahindra Marazzo slots in between the Maruti Suzuki Ertiga and the Toyota Innova Crysta and thus it creates its own niche segment. Most of the people who want a more spacious and practical MPV than the Ertiga but can't stretch their budget for the Innova Crysta, the Mahindra Marazzo will be the perfect choice for them. The price of the Mahindra Marazzo BS6 starts at Rs. 11.25 lakhs and it goes up to Rs. 13.59 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. The detailed variant-wise BS6 prices are mentioned in the table below:
Variant | Price (Ex-showroom Delhi) |
M2 seven-seater | Rs. 11.25 lakhs |
M2 eight-seater | Rs. 11.25 lakhs |
M4+ seven-seater | Rs. 12.37 lakhs |
M4+ eight-seater | Rs. 12.45 lakhs |
M6+ seven-seater | Rs. 13.51 lakhs |
M6+ eight-seater | Rs. 13.59 lakhs |
Cons
No Petrol Engine on Offer
Now, as everything has both plus points as well as negatives and the same is the case with the Marazzo. Let's start with the cons and the first negative of the Marazzo is that it doesn't get the option of a petrol engine. As you might be already knowing that Mahindra showcased the new 1.5-litre TGDI petrol engine at the 2020 Auto Expo. This new turbo petrol motor will power the Marazzo too and it is expected to churn out around 163 PS of power and 280 Nm of peak torque. It will come mated to both a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as a 6-speed AT but the Marazzo Petrol has not been launched yet.
Diesel Automatic Combination not Available
The next con of the Marazzo is that it doesn't get the option of an automatic transmission with the diesel engine. The Mahindra Marazzo's diesel engine with the manual transmission does its job really well, there are no two ways about it. However, Mahindra should have offered the Marazzo with the AT (automatic transmission) from the day-one of launch to lure the buyers.
Poor placement of the Storage Spaces inside the Cabin
The Marazzo's cabin is very spacious, it is very comfortable and it feels good too. However, what's not likeable is the fact that this cabin isn't very practical. There are very minimal storage spaces inside the cabin and also the door packets and bottle holders of the doors cannot be accessed while the doors of the car are closed. Thus, these minor ergonomic flaws rob out the practicality of this great spacious MPV.
Not So Good Resale Value
Now, as you all already know that the Mahindra Marazzo didn't really sell consistently in good numbers. In its initial months, it fetched a lot of buyers but gradually its sales figures kept declining. Just for an instance, last year in November 2019, Mahindra managed to sell 1,007 units of this MPV but this year, in November 2020, only 226 units of the Marazzo were sold in the country. As the Marazzo doesn't really sell in good numbers, so you can't expect a very good resale value from this MPV.
