Jeep Compass is a stellar SUV with great off-road capabilities. It was first launched in India in 2017 and became an instant hit. However, in its nearly three years of tenure, it didn't get any major update. But, things are going to change now. A few weeks ago, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) unveiled the new 2021 Jeep Compass Facelift for the European markets. This was the European-spec model developed for the global markets. But, Jeep will soon launch a mid-life updated version of the Compass SUV in India too. And now, the 2021 Jeep Compass Facelift has been spied on test in India for the first time. Here are some more details about it.
The India-spec new Compass Facelift will be slightly different from the international model. Recently, it has been spied on test in Maharashtra. The test mule of the new Compass Facelift was spotted doing test rounds in Ranjangaon near Pune. For those who don't know, let me tell you that India is a major production hub for Jeep Compass. That's because Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) India has its manufacturing facility at Ranjangaon (near Pune) in Maharashtra. India is an export hub for FCA as a majority of the Jeep Compass SUV sold in the International countries are made at this Ranjangaon facility.
Aesthetically, compared to the current India-spec model, the new facelifted Compass will get a minor nip and tuck. Upfront, it will get a blacked-out version of Jeep's signature seven-slat grille with some chrome accents. It will also get revised front-end with minor tweaks on the front bumper and new LED fog lamps. The SUV will be proferred in new colour shades and will get new alloys too. The rear design will be almost similar to the outgoing model except for the addition of new dual-tip exhaust. Overall, it looks the same as before but gets new cosmetic add-ons to enhance its sporty appeal.
The new Compass Facelift gets an updated interior. The dashboard looks almost the same as before but gets subtle changes and soft-touch materials. Taking the centre stage of the dashboard is a bigger 8.4-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It is compatible with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and Jeep's latest UConnect 5 software. Globally, the new facelifted Compass also gets some high-end safety features. These include Forward Collision Warning, LaneSense Departure Warning, Electronic Roll Mitigation (ERM), etc. However, we don't expect the Indian version to come loaded with such high-end safety equipment.

Globally, the new Compass gets a new 1.3-litre turbo petrol motor and also plug-in hybrid powertrain. However, the India-spec model will be powered by recently updated BS6-compliant 1.4-litre turbo petrol and 2.0-litre diesel engine. The 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine will churn out 163 PS of power and 250 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual and a 7-speed DCT. The 2.0-litre oil-burner, on the other hand, will churn out 170 PS of power and 350 Nm of torque. It will be coupled with a 6-speed manual and a 9-speed automatic transmission. The diesel Jeep Compass will also get off-road capable 4x4 drivetrain.
The new 2021 Jeep Compass Facelift has been recently spied in India which hints that Jeep has begun its testing process. We expect that the new facelifted Compass will be launched sometime in the first quarter of 2021. Currently, the BS6-compliant Jeep Compass is priced in India between Rs. 16.49 lakhs - Rs. 24.99 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. In India, it rivals against the other mid-size SUVs like the Tata Harrier, MG Hector, Mahindra XUV 500 and also against Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos to a certain extent.
