Mahindra launched the all-new second-generation Thar in India on October 2, 2020. It was first unveiled on the occasion of the country's Independence day and ever since it made its public debut, there has been a lot of buzz around the new Thar. That's because the all-new Mahindra Thar is leaps and bounds better than its predecessor and the company launched it at a very aggressive introductory starting price of Rs. 9.80 lakhs, Ex-showroom pan-India. But now, the introductory price benefits are no more available and the company has hiked the prices of the new Thar. So, as you have seen in the above tables, the company has hiked the prices of the all-new 2021 Mahindra Thar by upto 40,000 rupees, depending upon the variant. Now, let's talk about some general info and specifications of the all-new Thar. So, the new Mahindra Thar is available with multiple engines and gearbox combinations, different trims further sub-divided into several variants and it gets different configurations for the roof too. Also, it is worth mentioning that earlier the new Thar was available with both side-facing seats as well as the forward-facing seats. But now, the 3 base-spec variants with the side-facing seats have been discontinued. Talking about the engine specifications of the SUV, so the all-new Mahindra Thar is powered by a BS6-compliant 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine. This oil-burner churns out 132 PS of maximum power at 3750 RPM and 300 Nm of peak torque between 1600-2800 RPM. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as an all-new 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and it gets 4X4 system as standard. The all-new Thar also gets a new BS6-compliant 2.0-litre mStallion T-GDI petrol engine. This new turbo petrol motor churns out 152 PS of maximum power at 5000 RPM and 320 Nm peak torque between 1500-3000 RPM. This petrol mill also comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox as well as an all-new 6-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and gets 4X4 system as standard.

So, talking about the safety features on offer, it gets dual front airbags, ABS and EBD with Brake Assist, reverse parking sensors, Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Roll-over Mitigation, roll cage, etc. The LX variant of the Thar also gets a Brake Locking Differential.
