Maruti has been launching several new products for the year 2022 and along with the new launches, they are also gearing up to update the older models as well. One such example is the Ciaz and for 2022, Maruti is all set to bring the newer 1.5L DualJet petrol motor and a new 6-speed torque converter gearbox that'll replace the older 4-speed AT.
Mechanically, the updated Ciaz will be powered by the same 1.5L motor as found in the Ertiga, XL6, Brezza and the upcoming Grand Vitara. This four-cylinder, naturally aspirated, mild hybrid motor pumps out 102 bhp of power on tap with a peak torque of 136.8 Nm.
It gets mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and also gets a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox as an option. Currently, the mileage of Ciaz sticks to 20.6 kmpl for the stick shift and 20 kmpl for the 4-speed AT. With the new engine, these figures will certainly improve.
Sharing details about the design then things will remain more or less the same. However, we can expect a few tweaks to the front and rear bumper, alloy wheels and updated badging at the tailgate. On the inside, we can now expect the carmaker to offer a larger touchscreen infotainment system, 360-degree camera and more modern features.
On the safety front, we can expect four airbags, electronic stability control, and hill hold control in the new model. Other safety features like ABS with EBD, a high-speed alert system, rear parking sensors, speed sensing door lock and more will continue like before.
Currently, the Maruti Ciaz is priced from Rs 8.78 lakh to Rs 11.76 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi. We expect the newer model to be offered with a hike between Rs 50,000 to Rs 90,000. Once launched, the 2022 Maruti Ciaz will rival fifth-gen Honda City, Skoda Slavia, VW Virtus and Hyundai Verna.
