Tata has finally launched the 2022 Nexon EV Max after much teasing and we check out if it is any different from the existing Nexon EV. We pitch the 2022 Tata Nexon EV Max vs Nexon EV old and share with you its design, features, battery capacity, driving range, safety equipment and everything that can be discussed between both the models.
Design
As far as design is concerned then nothing is changed except for the exterior colour options. The Nexon EV Max now gets a new signature Intensi Teal Blue colour along with Daytona Grey and Pristine White. All of these get dual-colour treatment. On the other hand, the Nexon EV is offered in three colour options - Signature Teal Blue, Glacier White and Atlas Black.
Features
The Nexon EV Max now gains several features like an auto-dimming inside rear-view mirror, illuminated gear knob with park mode, electronic parking brake with auto-hold function, wireless smartphone charger, cruise control, an air purifier, leatherette front seats with ventilated cooled function and an all-new makarana beige interior colour scheme. In the new model, there's also a tyre pressure monitoring system and smartphone integration.
Other features like an electric sunroof, automatic climate control, rear AC vents, push-button start/stop, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, leather-wrapped steering wheel, projector headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights, LED taillights, a large touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto continue as before from the Nexon EV.
Battery Capacity
This is the biggest highlight of the Nexon EV Max is that it now gets a bigger 40.5kWh battery pack compared to the 30.2kWh one offered in the regular Nexon EV. The table below showcases the power and torque figures of both battery packs -

As can be seen, the Nexon EV Max is not only powerful but also gets multiple regenerative modes.
Chargers and Charging Time
Tata is providing two charger options with the Nexon EV Max - a smaller 3.3 kWh and a new 7.2kWh. The carmaker is charging an additional Rs 50,000 for the bigger and more powerful charger that juices up the battery in just 6.5 hours from the AC supply compared to the 3.3kWh one that'll take about 15 to 16 hours to fully charge the electric SUV. The Nexon EV Max also supports fast charging and the 0 to 80% charge can happen in just 56 minutes with the DC fast charger.
On the other hand, the Tata Nexon EV takes around 8 to 9 hours to fully charge the battery using the AC charger and through a DC fast charger, it juices up the battery from 0 to 80% in just 60 minutes.
Driving Range and Top Speed
The driving range of the Nexon EV Max has significantly increased to 437 km compared to the 312 km offered in the Nexon EV. The top speed of Nexon EV Max sticks to 140 kmph compared to the 120 kmph offered in the regular Nexon EV.
Safety Features
Tata is now offering all-wheel disc brakes, electronic stability control with i-VBAC, multi-drive modes, hill hold assist and hill descent control with the Nexon EV Max. Other features like ABS with EBD, front seat belt reminder, dual-airbags, rear parking sensors, reverse camera, a high-speed alert system and speed-sensing door lock continue as before from the Nexon EV.
Prices and Variants
While the Nexon EV is available in four variants - XM, XZ+, XZ+ Dark Edition, XZ+ Lux and XZ+ Lux Dark Edition, the EV Max is only available in two trims - XZ+ and XZ+ Lux. Have a look at the prices here -
