Volkswagen will debut their next mid-size sedan, the Virtus on March 8th in the Global market. It will replace the Vento in India, which was discontinued recently.
Camouflaged test modules of the upcoming Volkswagen Virtus have been spied plying on Indian roads. And after several speculations, its debut has been finally fixated on March 8th, 2022. The upcoming mid-size sedan will be part of Volkswagens India 3.0 project, which also has hybrid cars and SUVs in the pipeline, awaiting launch in the future.
As part of this project, VW India and Skoda have jointly developed a new chassis called the MQB A0 IN platform. This flexible platform can accommodate hatchbacks, SUVs, and sedans. This platform currently underpins the VW Taigun, Kushaq, and the yet-to-launch Slavia. The Virtus will be the next mid-size sedan to share this platform.

Much like the Taigun, even the VW Virtus will be available in standard and GT trim levels. Mechanically too, both the sedan and SUV will share the same powertrain options as well. This includes the 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 115 bhp and 175 Nm of torque. And the 1.5-liter four-cylinder turbo petrol engine produces 148 bhp and 250 Nm of torque.
The exact specs of the Virtus are yet to be confirmed, we can expect these engine figures to be somewhere around the above-mentioned specs. Transmission duties will be handled by a standard 6-speed manual transmission, or 6-speed automatic transmission, or an optional 7-speed DSG with the bigger 1.5-liter engine.

The exterior design of the Virtus will be quite distinct and posh looking too, as we have observed with all VW vehicles. Itll also share the same standout features also available with the Taigun, which includes an electric sunroof, a large touchscreen infotainment system that supports both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a digital instrument console, automatic AC, LED projector headlamps, etc.
The upcoming 2022 Virtus is expected to be priced between Rs. 10.05 lakh to Rs. 18 lakh(ex-showroom Delhi). Once launched, it will compete in a segment that includes the likes of the Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, and the Honda City.
