What if we tell you that the 2023 Honda City is the most affordable in the segment? Not only in the segment, but in the Indian market. That sounds pretty far-fetched. Right? But yes, there is one area where it does actually is the most affordable. The new 2023 Honda City Facelift is the most affordable ADAS-equipped car in India. A feature that was once a premium addition now debuts under the 13 lakh price cap.
Let's see what all the most affordable ADAS trim offers.
Honda City Second Base Model 'V', The Most Affordable ADAS Car In India
Honda has offered the ADAS Sensing Suite on its Petrol-powered City Facelift. Earlier ADAS was only offered with hybrid e:HEV variants only. With the Petrol City facelift, Honda offers ADAS from its V trim, the 2nd base model. Thanks to this City V trim, the 2023 Honda City becomes the most affordable car with ADAS in India.
Earlier, MG Astor Savvy trim was titled the most affordable ADAS-equipped car in India. Currently, the Astor Savvy trim is priced at Rs. 16.79 lakhs (ex-sh). In comparison, the City V trim is priced at 12.37 lakh for MT variant and Rs. 13.62 lahks for CVT. This puts a price gap of a whopping Rs. 4.42 lakh between the Honda City V trim and MG Astor Savvy.
V Trim Features
Even after being just the second base model, it provides enough features to make you feel it is a higher-end variant. It was never shy of boasting a greater tech quotient.
- Keyless Entry
- Request sensor
- ADAS- Honda Sensing Technology, as the company calls it.
- TPMS
- Automatic Headlamps
- Paddle shifters with the CVT
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- 8-inch infotainment screen
- Wireless Android Auto/ Apple CarPlay, and more
The list is pretty exhaustive, but it also does miss out on some loadings. It doesn't get the LED headlamps, wireless charging, sunroof, or leather-wrapped steering wheel. But, these are some things that will not be a deterrent. At this price point, it definitely punches above its weight.
Powertrain
With the new Honda City, Diesel finally bids adieu. It is now a thing of the past, and if you want a diesel Honda City, you should find a leftover previous generation model, and straight away take it home. Also, you might just be able to score a good discount deal as well.
Now, time for these new variants. A new entry-level petrol variant known as SV has been included and it will be sold only with a manual gearbox. It will be accompanied by V, VX, and ZX. The 1.5-liter petrol engine producing 121 hp and the 1.5-litre Atkinson Cycle strong hybrid engine capable of 126 hp will be RDE compliant. The e: HEV has a claimed mileage of 26.5 kmpl and the regular petrol has it at 18.4 kmpl.
VERDICT- 2023 Honda City is the most affordable car in the Indian car market. This statement alone is a testament to the willingness of Honda to dominate the sedan space. The price point is aggressive, and the features are at par with Honda standards. But, the Hyundai Verna is just around the corner with the launch on 21 March. It would be interesting to see if it could undercut the Honda City, which will not be an easy feat.
