- The XL7 is already on sale in other Asian markets
- Gets a bench seat in 2nd row for 3 adults
- Total seating increases from 6 to 7
The XL6 has been a success for Maruti in India. Sold via Nexa outlets, on an average about 3000 units are sold each month. While one of the key reasons for its success is the 2nd row set-up, this also limits the number of people that can be seated inside. The individual captain seats do provide a lot of comfort and make it the most affordable car in India to do so.
However, we are sure a lot of people in the market need more seats for family usage and this is where the XL7 comes into the picture. On sale internationally for a while, it won't take any R&D effort to plonk in a bench 2nd row into the XL6. This MPV got a major overhaul earlier this year and as a result, looks better, has more features and is efficient to run thanks to the new C series engine. The icing on the cake is the optional 6 speed automatic gearbox as well as a CNG fuel type.
Maruti could also very well launch a mid-level version at a lower sticker price. Currently, the XL6 range starts from Rs 11.3 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Zeta version which is pretty loaded in terms of features. XL7, with slightly less features could get a starting price of Rs 10.99 lakh, thus making for a great family MPV with 7 seats. But will this happens? Our fingers remain crossed!
