The Indian Auto Expo'23 witnessed Sierra e-SUVs near-production version on display. Being an iconic brand name, it gathered a lot of eyeballs. However, its launch is still far as Tata plans to introduce it by 2025. Meanwhile, its official photos have been uploaded by Tata on its website. Read all details of the upcoming 2023 Tata Sierra electric SUV below.
2023 Tata Sierra Electric SUV - Exterior Photos
Speaking of the exterior design, Sierra mimics the old model impeccably. While the overall design of it is boxy but there are subtle curves all around that give it a distinctive look. The front gets a single sleek LED light bar that also has LED turn indicators embedded in it. Additionally, the front bumper has masculine body lines with a piano black contrast. Also, the silver garnish on the front bumper makes it look amazing.
On the side profile, Tata has retained the big quarter glass that matches the roof. Old Sierra gained its popularity & uniqueness in the market because of this design. Hence, Tata has kept the quarter glass as one of the important design aspects of the upcoming model. Meanwhile, the diamond-cut silver & black contrast alloy wheels look dashing as well. The showcased model was a 5-door version but the quarter glass design makes it look like a 3-door SUV.
At the rear, Sierra gets a tall body design with a boxy layout. The main highlight here is the single LED light bar that also has the brake light & turn indicators embedded in it. Apart from this, a big spoiler helps in retaining the true SUV looks of the Sierra EV. Additionally, Tata has used black cladding at the rear also for giving it a rugged look.
Tata Sierra EV - Interior Photos
The interiors of it are definitely one of the most exciting parts. While the exterior design is equally eye-grabbing, the cabin takes the design game one step ahead. The first thing to notice is the minimalistic design with silver & black contrast. Additionally, Tata has equipped it with big digital screens on the dashboard. One of the main screens is the infotainment display while the driver console is also fully digital. However, the steering wheel design is somewhat similar to the old model with 4-spokes. The old model of Sierra was equipped with the 4-spoke steering & the upcoming model also gets a similar layout.
Meanwhile, the AC controls are touch-sensitive while the center console gets a big gearshift knob. Both of the front seats are power adjustable as well as they get a memory option. Tata has also equipped the seats of Sierra with ventilation. At the rear, Tata has equipped the Sierra with a single bench rather than captain seats. However, the rear seating gets extended leg support that can be adjusted electronically. Meanwhile, the big panoramic sunroof makes the Sierra cabin even airier.
Tata Sierra Powertrain Details
The Sierra was first showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo with an EV powertrain. Even at the 2023 Expo, Tata has retained its EV identity. It looks that Tata will initially introduce the Sierra with EV only. However, to make it a true e-SUV, it is suspected to get an AWD system. Something similar was seen at the Expo'23 on the Harrier EV. However, there are rumors that the Sierra EV will be capable of doing 600-800 km of driving range per charge.
Meanwhile, the possibility of an ICE variant in the future can not be ignored. Tata is also soon going to introduce petrol engines in Harrier & Safari SUVs. This will be a 1.5-lt T-GDI turbocharged powertrain that will make 170+ bhp of power. Hence, Tata might use the same powertrain in the future for the Sierra ICE variants. Also, Tata is among the few manufacturers left that are still offering diesel engines. Therefore, the possibility of a diesel engine for Sierra in the future can not be ignored completely.
Verdict
Tata Sierra is an iconic name in Indian automotive history. With the return of the Sierra brand, Tata is expected to grow further. However, EV powertrain details will only be revealed in the future. For now, Tata is eyeing to debut the production model of Sierra by 2025. However, it won't be anytime before 2026 that we will see Sierra EVs running on Indian roads.
