2023 Volkswagen Tiguan SUV Details
As seen in the detailed spy shots, the upcoming model is a mid-life facelift of the Tiguan. As per the photos, there are not any visible changes to the dimensions. The test mule looks more or less similar in terms of size to the current model. However, the design seems to have undergone some much-required changes. The front now has these large shaped C style air dams. The front bumper has been revised with a similar looking layout as that on the Virtus. Meanwhile, the LED projector headlights also seems to have undergone a change but VW engineers have cleverly hidden these details via 3-D stickering.
The side profile looks similar as well. As it is supposed to be a new-gen, the only subtle changes can be seen on the shoulder line and the ORVM design. The overall appearance of it has now been tuned towards more sophistication. Hence, the boxy design of the current model will be ditched to some extent with it. Additionallly, the rear end also uses stickers to cover the taillight and the exhaust pipes. However, the overall design has been revised as visible through the boot lid rework. Here too, one can easily notice the slight effort to change from boxy shape to curvy one.
In India, the VW Tiguan comes with a 2.0-lt TSI engine. With the introduction of new model, this will likely remain unchanged. A 7-speed DSG gearbox along with AWD drivetrain will continue to be offered on it. Additionally, the SUV will feature design changes in the interior as well. These will be inspired from other VAG group cars like the 2022 Audi Q3. Also, VW will add more features and connected tech on the upcoming model.
Verdict
Volkswagen Tiguan has been a moderate seller for the brand in India. All thanks to the strong rivals like the Toyota Fortuner & the absence of diesel engine. However, the current model itself offers a flair of sophistication & luxury altogether. The new model is currently undergoing international testing hence we think it won't make global debut anytime before the end of 2023. This also means that the new model will hit the Indian roads sometime in 2024. Expect the prices to be hiked as well.
