The Punch EV stands out with its distinct design changes compared to its internal combustion engine (ICE) counterpart, marking the most significant differentiation among all Tata EVs. The front end draws clear inspiration from the Nexon EV, resembling a scaled-down version of it. Key features include a newly introduced full-width LED light bar, a split headlamp setup with a trapezoidal housing for the main cluster, and a front bumper incorporating a faux silver skid plate. While the side profile and rear design remain relatively consistent, updates such as new alloy wheels and a dual-tone rear bumper add a refreshed touch. Notably, the Punch is the first Tata EV to include a frunk (front trunk).
Interiors And Features
Although Tata hasn't provided a comprehensive glimpse of the Punch EV's interior, significant changes are expected. Anticipate an entirely new 10.25-inch touchscreen and digital instrument cluster, along with a fresh two-spoke steering wheel and a jeweled rotary drive selector on the center console. A teaser image on Tatas website hints at a revamped HVAC control panel featuring toggle switches and haptic buttons, akin to the setup in the Nexon EV.
In terms of features, the top-tier Punch EV variant is set to boast a 360-degree camera, leatherette seats, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, connected car technology, a wireless charger, ventilated front seats, cruise control, a sunroof, and the innovative Arcade.ev app suite. Several of these features mark a pioneering inclusion for a vehicle of this size.
Battery And Range Details
While full technical details of the Punch EV are not yet disclosed, it is known that it will be available in two variants Standard and Long Range. As previously reported, these variants are expected to feature 25kWh and 35kWh battery packs, respectively. The Standard variant is equipped with a 3.3kW AC charger, while the Long Range variant offers an additional 7.2kW AC charger and supports DC fast charging.
Utilizing the new acti.ev modular platform, the Punch EV is anticipated to deliver a range between 300-600km, depending on the model and battery configuration. Given this, a range of 300-400km is deemed plausible for the Punch EV. The acti.ev platform represents a significant advancement from the Gen 1 architecture, featuring substantial modifications over the traditional internal combustion engine platform.
The Tata Punch EV is anticipated to hit the market with an expected starting price of Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned as a direct rival to the Citroen eC3, it also offers a premium alternative to the MG Comet EV and Tata Tiago EV within the electric vehicle segment.
