Exterior

This all-new Skoda Kodiaq features an evolutionary design language when compared to the previous Kodiaq, as even from a distance, one will guess that this is that 'Big Skoda SUV'. However, this has more of a curvaceous exterior - where the front appears jacked up, and that's because the grille size has gone up and gets more chrome treatment that captures your attention first. It looks cool, but the last generation grille was perfect. To add more, the LED lights have also lost the sharpness and appear more bold. At the bumper, you'll notice the radar between the plasticky honeycomb grille for the ADAS features.

Talking about the side profile, the height of the car appears lower, and at the end of the C-pillar features a chunky chrome slate that adds to its luxury quotient. Lastly, the rear profile features new-shaped LED tail-lights that again appear bulkier and suit the overall shape of this SUV. Other details at the back are Skoda badging in the center, a bumper with a chrome strip, and to be honest, the rear profile looks the best. Last thing about its exterior is the new alloy wheel design of R18 (Mazeno Sliver Alloy with black Aero Covers) , which also takes help from plastic aero design that helps in the aerodynamic department of the car. Now, two variants are on offer - L&K and Sportline - and the one we are talking about is available on the expensive L&K.

The Sportline variant comes with more sporty design elements such as all black grille and black bumper - although has no mechanical change, just exterior touch up featuring more sporty looking exterior and a different R18 Soira anthracite alloy wheels. Also, doesn't have the chrome highlights like L&K on grille, C-pillar and at bumpers.
To add more, it is available in six colour options: Moon White, Magic Black, Graphite Grey, Velvet Red, Race Blue. The Selection L&K gets an exclusive Bronx Gold and the Sportline gets an exclusive Steel Grey.

Interior

Kodiaq interior is simply great - featuring dual-tone colour treatment with a new two-spoke steering wheel, and has a very minimalistic approach to it, as the overall buttons are less and it feels so spacious. Neatly designed AC vents with chrome tips, and below them are three dials for multi-zone air conditioning. To add more, the infotainment screen is 13 inches - quite big - and the MID is 10.25 inches. One major thing that is quite unique in the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq is that the gearbox isn't placed on the central console, but at the side of the steering wheel, just like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class. To make it more simple, it's the toggles which operate the wiper controls.

Moreover, there is so much space in the central console that an ample amount of small handy items can be put in here. Some features include a wireless charging pad, which is big enough to keep 2 smartphones; front seats that get ventilation and are electrically adjustable; plus the driver's seat also gets a 3-memory seat function. A panoramic sunroof is there, 9 airbags, 13 speakers and a Canton Sound system.

Now, talking about the space - with all three rows up, 281L of boot space is available, and if you fold the third row, it converts to 786L. Lastly, with the second row folded as well, the total space goes up to 1976L.
Powertrains
The engine specs remain the same - a 2.0L TSI petrol engine producing 203 PS and 320 Nm of torque, with only one gearbox option: a 7-speed DSG. Two variants are there - Sportline and Selection L&K. The Sportline will feature a more athletic appearance, while the L&K will cater to those who want the Kodiaq in its most luxurious form. Additionally, both variants come with an AWD setup, as it is standard even on the current-gen model. Also, the Kodiaq has been rated to provide fuel efficiency of 14.86 km/l by ARAI.

Verdict
The Kodiaq 2nd generation is here, and a lot is riding on this car. Even its previous generation was celebrated for its premiumness and performance, but was not successful enough because it had to compete with the Toyota Fortuner, which is not just the king of its segment, but by far the most desirable car in India. Now, Skoda has upped its game and gone full hard on making this a proper premium luxury by giving top-class features and making it more impactful. How it will hold up now, let's wait for it.
