In recent years, the Indian car industry has experienced significant growth, accompanied by an increase in customer awareness regarding their preferences when it comes to choosing a car. Car buyers in India now consider car crash test ratings as a crucial factor. Carmakers are giving priority to conducting crash tests on their vehicles to make them more appealing to customers. Skoda India recently conducted a customer survey that unveiled significant insights about car buyers in India. According to the survey, 92% of customers desire crash tests for cars in India, with crash test safety ratings being the highest priority for potential car buyers.

Customers Prioritizing Crash Test Rated Cars
Skoda Auto India commissioned a survey conducted by NIQ BASES, which shed light on the strong emphasis placed by customers on car safety features. The survey found that 9 out of 10 customers believed that all cars in India should have a safety rating. The top two factors influencing consumers' car purchase decisions, as revealed by the survey, were crash ratings and the number of airbags. Fuel efficiency, a popular feature, ranked third in importance among car buyers.
Out of the participants in the survey, approximately 67% were individuals who currently owned a car valued above Rs 5 lakh. Around 33% of the respondents did not currently own a car but expressed their intention to purchase one valued above Rs 5 lakh within the next year. The survey focused on individuals between the ages of 18 and 54, belonging to the SEC A and B socioeconomic brackets. Among the respondents, approximately 80% were male, while 20% were female.
The car's crash rating took the lead as the primary factor influencing customers' car purchase decisions, with an importance score of 22.3%. Following closely behind was the number of airbags, which held an importance score of 21.6%. Fuel efficiency emerged as the third most significant factor, with an importance score of 15.0% when it came to purchasing a car. In terms of crash ratings, the highest customer preference of 22.2% was observed for a 5-star rating, closely followed by a 21.3% preference for a 4-star rating. A crash rating of zero safety rating garnered the least preference, with only a 6.8% score.

Verdict: In response to the strong emphasis on safety by the Government of India and other regulatory bodies, a study was conducted to assess consumers' perception of safety in cars.
