The BMW 1 Series was launched in India way back in 2013, and after going largely unnoticed for several years, the automaker discontinued it in 2017. BMW has now filed a design patent for the 1 Series, along with a roadster. The 1 Series was replaced by the 2 Series Gran Coupe, and its second generation is expected to launch around mid-2025. Given these developments, we believe the 1 Series might make a comeback to Indian land after an 8-year gap. BMW 1 Series
The 1 Series is a sporty hatchback that was sold in India from 2013 to 2017, and it was the only RWD small car option for customers. Now, the company has filed a design patent for its fourth generation (F70). Internationally, it was already unveiled last year, and it gets similar treatment for the exterior and interior as the new gen 2 Series Gran Coupe. If launched, the 1 Series will be offered with a petrol engine, with the petrol variant featuring 48-volt mild-hybrid technology that provides an additional 20 bhp and 55 Nm of torque to the 2.0L twin-turbo engine, as seen in the 2 Series Gran Coupe. Talking about the current power figures, it produces 176 hp and 280 Nm of torque.
The interior design will again be similar to what we've seen in the updated model of the 2 Series, featuring a 10.7-inch MID and a 10.3-inch infotainment screen, along with new-age interior styling. While it is still too early to talk about all the details, we do have images of how it is expected to appear.

Verdict
If this car makes a comeback in India, the Mini Cooper will be its main competitor. However, Mercedes also offers the A-Class, but only in the AMG version. This car will cater to enthusiasts who love driving a small car fast and navigating tight lanes with ease - basically, a toy for big boys. However, there is no confirmation yet on whether it will launch anytime soon in the country. For updates, follow 91Wheels.
