EXCLUSIVE: This Is Why MG Is Launching The Astor VTi Tech Style MT

MG Astor is one of the popular mid-size SUVs that rivals Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, VW Taigun and Skoda Kushaq. It is also one of the feature-loaded SUVs on a budget and the carmaker has gotten right with the pricing too. Now, to appeal to more buyers and bring in more sales, MG will be launching VTi Tech Style trim of the Astor in the coming weeks.

What's interesting about this trim is that it won't miss out on any convenience features but will fall short on the safety equipment. This variant will continue with the features of the Style variant and in addition to that, will be a little cheaper too.

According to our sources, safety features like an electric stability program, traction control system hill hold control and hill descent functions will be missed out on. Other safety equipment like dual airbags at the front, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, a high-speed alert system, ISOFIX child seat mounts and more will continue like the Style trim.

Our sources also revealed that the features are removed due to the shortage of semiconductor chips. Not just MG but several carmakers have been hit with the semiconductor chip shortage lately and because of that, several features are removed from a number of popular models.

MG Astor VTi Tech Style which will be the new base trim now will continue with features like automatic climate control, rear AC vents, tilt-adjustable steering wheel, a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, steering mounted audio controls, LED projector headlights with LED daytime running lights and more.

Under the hood, it will be offered with a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol motor that churns out 108 bhp of power with a peak torque of 144 Nm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission as standard and this trim won't get a CVT unit as offered in the higher trims.
