1. All-Wheel Drive Capability

One of the most notable differences between the Harrier EV and its ICE powered sibling is its drivetrain. Unlike the diesel-powered Harrier, which only comes with front-wheel drive, the Harrier EV will feature an advanced all-wheel-drive (AWD) system. The EV is expected to have a dual-motor setup which will enable better traction and control across varying terrains. Additionally, the Harrier EV is expected to deliver significantly higher torque, possibly going up to 500 Nm, which is much better than the ICE powered Harrier that delivers only 350 Nm of torque.

2. New Suspension for Better Comfort

The Harrier EV will feature a multi-link rear suspension, a notable upgrade from the standard Harrier's torsion beam setup. This suspension type is known for improving ride comfort, stability and handling, especially on uneven roads or unpaved paths. The switch to a multi-link system is a significant enhancement that will bring the Harrier EV in line with more premium SUVs that focus on refined ride quality.

3. Next-Gen Technology and Features

The Harrier EV will offer a better premium feel with a set of cutting-edge features on the inside. While it will carry over several premium offerings from the ICE model, such as the 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 10.25-inch digital driver's display, panoramic sunroof and dual-zone climate control, it will also introduce EV-exclusive features.

Tata Harrier EV: EV-Specific Features Include:

  • Summon Mode: Allows the vehicle to be moved forward or backward remotely using the key fob.
  • Vehicle-to-Load: This feature enables the SUV to supply power to external devices like camping equipment or household appliances.
  • Vehicle-to-Charge: V2C allows the Harrier EV to charge other electric vehicles or electronic devices during long journeys.

4. Advanced Safety Package

From the revival of the Tata Motors until now, the automaker has kept the safety as its top-most priority, and the Harrier EV will not disappoint. It is expected to come equipped with up to seven airbags along with a robust set of active safety features. The inclusion of Level-2 ADAS will take the safety to a step further. The ADAS suite will include features such as adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assist, autonomous emergency braking and more. Additionally, the Harrier EV will offer a 360-degree camera, hill hold assist, electronic stability control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system.

5. Design Tweaks for a Futuristic Appeal

While the Harrier EV retains its diesel counterpart's strong and muscular stance, subtle or we can say some EV specific design changes set it apart. These include a closed-off grille, redesigned bumpers with silver accents and unique aero-optimized alloy wheels. All these features contribute to a modern EV identity. Additionally, the presence of an EV badge and a distinctive connected LED taillight further distinguish it from the standard model.

Expected Price and Rivals

The Tata Harrier EV is expected to be priced between Rs 25-28 lakh (ex-showroom), positioning it against competitors like the Mahindra XEV 9E and the BYD Atto 3. With its combination of electric power, premium features and advanced technology, the Harrier EV is shaping up to be a strong contender in the electric SUV market.
