First-Ever Electric Royal Enfield Bike: All Details
Showcased to the world at the EICMA today, this electric Himalayan concept bike has surprised everyone. The design of the bike has been carried forward from the newly debuted Himalayan 452. However, it is different in its lower half due to the EV structure. While no details were shared about this EV test bed, it is supposed to change a lot as it approaches the production version. However, the majority of the design language shall remain the same. Interestingly, RE played a video clip where this test mule is seen being tested in the Himalayas. RE claims that the development of this EV has been going on for the past 18 months.
Now, the technical specs visible are the spoke wheels, USD front suspension, and adjustable rear monoshock. Also, an all-digital rectangular screen is used as the speedometer console. Again, we can't make judgments on its specs or features as it is a prototype. However, the battery will be a structural part of the frame. Additionally, it has been completely designed in-house. But, the battery & the electric motor specs were not revealed. What was told in the press conference is that RE has lined up more such EV prototypes which shall debut in the coming months!
Verdict
Royal Enfield is a cult bike brand. While almost every buyer of RE wants to feel the iconic history of the brand & the associated thump of the engine; the EV segment is completely new for RE. The Himalayan ADV is also one of the most successful models for RE globally. But, using the same base for EV introduction; would it be beneficial? Well, you tell us that in the comments.
