This is true in the case of new Mahindra Thar as the carmaker has teased the Indian market with several spy shots and videos but never told when they will be launching the SUV. However, they have now by showcasing the Thar and along with a quick media drive. The new 2020 Mahindra Thar has not only outgrown itself in the styling and engine department but also the modern and usable features which make the hardcore SUV a distinctive in its segment.

Washable Interiors
Imagine going on an off-road patch and coming only to find out that like the exteriors which are covered in dirt, the interiors too are really dirty. Your normal SUV would require an interior clean-up and maybe detailing if it has gone bad. But are you really happy if that's the price you have to pay after every off-road patch you've covered?

To cover this up, Mahindra has said that the interiors are washable. Yes, you can wash the interiors ruggedly (even the touchscreen and AC controls) and they'll still shine bright. To remove the excess dirt and slush from the cabin, the washable interiors really comes handy for the hardcore off-road enthusiasts.
Feature-rich Touchscreen unit
The touchscreen unit now holds up with the latest connectivity features like Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and Voice Command. Further info reveals that the touchscreen also displays the wheel angle, engine temperature, G-Monitor and among others.
New automatic gearbox
Earlier, the Thar used to come with a 5-speed manual gearbox paired to a 2.5L CRDe diesel. Now, the new Thar gets an improved 2.2L mHawk engine which makes 130 bhp with 300 Nm of torque and a 6-speed manual unit. One also gets a 6-speed torque converter unit. There's another 2.0L turbo petrol which makes 150 bhp and 320 Nm of peak torque. The transmission includes a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed auto unit.

More ground clearance
The off-roading capability of the new Thar has significantly improved and now the ground clearance has been raised from 187 mm to 226 mm. You also get a shift on the fly which lets you switch from 2H or two-wheel-drive mode to 4H or four-wheel drive mode on the go. Both the approach and departure angle stick at 42 and 37 degrees respectively. The Thar also gets a water wading capacity of 650 mm.
Comfort features
The new-age Thar gets power windows, a touchscreen unit, factory fitted hardtop, two USB ports, 12 V socket, multi-function steering wheel, cruise control, digital MID screen and among others. The new Thar also gets speakers on the roof and dashboard and front-facing rear seats. The design, engines and features not only make the Thar exciting but also when launched with an expected price of Rs 12 lakh, ex-showroom, Delhi, it will definitely take on the likes of Force Gurkha and higher segment one's like the Isuzu V-Cross D Max pick up truck.
