The trend of turbo petrol engine's is not new in the compact SUVs. The trendsetter, Ford Ecosport had it much before and it was called as the 1.0L EcoBoost. However, the sales were not as impressive as the diesel and NA petrol and it had to be discontinued. Now, with the competition steeping up, Ford has decided to bring a powerful turbo petrol engine to the Ecosport which makes as much as 130 PS and will be more powerful than Kia Sonet.
Ford is in talks with Mahindra and will share the upcoming 1.2L mStallion turbo petrol engine of XUV300 with the Ecosport. This unit produces 130 PS of power with a peak torque of 230 Nm. If this is true then both the Ecosport and XUV300 will be the most powerful compact SUVs in the segment.
This upcoming powerful turbo petrol engine in the Ford Ecosport will be mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. There is no confirmation about the automatic transmission as of now.

Currently, for the petrol model, Ford brings in a 1.5-litre three-cylinder Dragon series petrol engine to the Ecosport. It makes as much as 121 bhp with 149 Nm of peak torque. The engine gets mated to a 5-speed manual and an optional 6-speed torque converter unit. Another engine is the reliable 1.5L oil burner which makes 99 bhp with 215 Nm and gets mated to a 5-speed manual stick shift.
Additionally, the Blue Oval partnership between Mahindra and Ford where Mahindra plans to bring in newer technologies in engines which will be used by Ford not only in India but on a global platform too. Also, their first product together, Ford C-SUV, will be sharing the platform and engine with the next-gen Mahindra XUV500.

Yes, Ford is planning to enter the market of MG Hector and Tata Harrier and bring their rival in 2021. For the second half of next year, both Ford (B745) and Mahindra (S204) are planning to enter the market which will rival the likes of Hyundai Creta, Nissan Kicks and Kia Seltos. With that, we expect that the new iteration of the XUV500 will surely be a blast.
It will only be after the launch of a new 2021 Mahindra XUV500 that we will also see Ford's new SUV which will host the new 180 bhp diesel and 190 hp petrol engine. The latter is also found in the new generation of Thar but in a less tuned state of just 150 hp.
