After the launch of the 2023 Honda City, the Japanese carmaker is all set to launch a new midsize SUV in India by the mid of 2023. Honda has already confirmed this and the launch could take place between April & June. Although several camouflaged test mules of this new SUV have been spotted during its testing on Indian roads, there were no clear images of it available until now. Recently a new image of the upcoming Honda SUV has surfaced on the internet. According to the image, the new Honda SUV seems to be inspired by the HR-V which is available in the international markets. Honda might name it HR-V in India too but the carmaker has recently registered a new "Elevate" nameplate in India which could be used for this upcoming midsize SUV. Moreover, below we have discussed the design and all other details about the upcoming new Honda SUV.
Honda's New Midsize SUV: Design
The recently surfaced image of the new Honda SUV shows a totally new design language from Honda. Though it seems inspired by some international Honda cars like HR-V, the new SUV could prove to be a handsome-looking SUV in India. The new SUV is expected to get several design elements like slim LED headlamps, a large front grill, all-around cladding, door-mounted ORVMs, slim LED front foglamps, large multi-spoke alloys, etc. The midsize SUV is expected to get a coupe-like design with a sloping roofline at the rear. It is expected to look more like a crossover than an SUV.
Honda's New Midsize SUV: Features
Honda is expected to equip the new midsize SUV with several comfort, convenience, and safety features. These include an all-around LED light setup, a 360-degree camera system, Honda's lane watch camera, 6 airbags, ESP, traction control, hill hold, electronic parking brake with auto hold, paddle shifters, a digital instrument cluster, advanced Honda Connect connected car tech, advanced Honda Sensing ADAS tech, etc.
Honda's New Midsize SUV: Powertrain
Honda is expected to offer the new midsize SUV with two powertrain options i.e. a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol with eHEV strong hybrid tech. Unlike other strong hybrid SUVs in the segment like the Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder, the eHEV hybrid variant of the new Honda SUV is expected to get two electric motors instead of just one. The transmission options could be a 6-speed manual and a 7-step CVT automatic.

Verdict: The new midsize SUV from Honda seems to be all set to disrupt the midsize SUV segment with its unique coupe-like design, crossover stance, feature-loaded interiors, and advanced technologies like ADAS & strong-hybrid powertrain. Likely to rival the likes of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, etc, the new midsize Honda SUV would be a unique offering in the segment because it will offer both a strong hybrid powertrain and the ADAS tech. No other SUV in the segment offers both of these technologies together.
