Original Article - April 2, 2020; The South Korean giant and India's second-largest car manufacturer, Hyundai Motor India Limited, is aiming to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels, not just by transitioning towards electric mobility, but also by introducing other eco-friendly options including Compressed Natural Gas. Hyundai has already launched a slew of other cars in India with factory-fitted CNG kits and now the carmaker has launched the 2020 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG in India with prices starting from Rs. 6.62 lakhs, Ex-showroom.
The 2020 Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG is offered as a bi-fuel variant paired with the standard petrol engine. It is powered by the same 1.2-litre VVT petrol engine, which in petrol-only model produces 82 bhp and 113 Nm of torque, but the CNG version is tuned to develop 68 bhp at 6,000 RPM and 95 Nm of torque at 4,000 RPM. The CNG version of the Grand i10 Nios does not get an AMT and is only offered with a 5-speed manual transmission.
While the official ARAI fuel economy figures for the Grand i10 Nios CNG have not been released, the Aura CNG has an ARAI claimed mileage figure of 25.4 km/kg and the Nios CNG will also offer more or less the same figure as both get the same powerplant. Also, like most of the other CNG hatchbacks, the Grand i10 Nios CNG too offers a bigger 60 litres (water equivalent) tank capacity as compared to the 37 litres petrol tank.
The regular Grand i10 Nios is offered in four trim levels - Era, Magna, Sportz and Asta, but the bi-fuel CNG variant of the Nios is offered in the two middle trims Magna and Sportz. Thus, Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG comes loaded with features like projector headlamps, rear parking sensors with reverse parking camera, rear defogger, 15-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels, 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, voice recognition, automatic climate control and a 5.2-inch digital muti-information display (MID) in the instrument cluster.
Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG is priced at Rs. 6.62 lakhs for the Magna variant and Rs. 7.16 lakhs for the feature-loaded Sportz variant, all prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi. The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios CNG can be a good option for those who are looking for a feature-loaded CNG car. Hyundai India also offers factory-fitted CNG kits with other Hyundai cars like the Santro and the recently launched Hyundai Aura.
