Hyundai i20 N Line vs i20 Turbo - Who Should Buy What?

Hyundai has finally launched its first N Line product in India and the South Korean carmaker has marked the innings with their popular hatchback, i20. In this article, we have compared the new Hyundai i20 N Line vs the regular i20 Turbo and share our thoughts on the design, updated suspension, engine options and price. Let's get started!

Hyundai i20 N Line vs Hyundai i20 Turbo

Specs Comparison

The regular Hyundai i20 comes with three engine options - a 1.2L petrol, a 1.0L turbo petrol and a 1.5L diesel mill. The i20 N Line is only available with the 1.0L turbo petrol motor. This is the same turbocharged petrol engine that we have seen in the Hyundai Venue and in the Verna as well. The new i20 N Line uses this same engine and Hyundai has not made any changes to its power and torque figures.

This 1.0L turbocharged petrol motor churns out 120 PS of maximum power and 172 Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to a 6-speed iMT (intelligent manual transmission) and it also gets a 7-speed DCT (dual-clutch transmission). There is no manual gearbox on offer. Also, the suspension of the new Hyundai i20 N Line has been re-tuned to give a more stable ride on our Indian roads. The i20 N Line also gets a new dual-tip exhaust and it has a throaty exhaust note, which will definitely impress the enthusiasts.

Design

The new N line version of the i20 is surely a looker if we compare it with the regular Hyundai i20 turbo. Though the power figures of the car remain the same as the regular version of the i20, its aggressive front fascia and other sporty elements make the N line version of the i20 a good-looking hot hatchback. Moreover, when we compare it with the ageing VW Polo, it definitely looks more sporty and youthful.

At the front, the new aggressive bumper with red accents lends it a sporty character. Hyundai's signature cascading grille gets a new chequered flag layout with piano black inserts in the i20 N Line and it looks much better than the regular i20. The sharp headlamp along with the integrated LED DRLs also looks very nice. The grille of the new Hyundai i20 N Line also gets an N Line badging that differentiates it from the regular i20 turbo.

Moving to the side profile, one can see that it gets newly designed N-marked 16-inch alloy wheels and it looks striking. Moreover, the car also gets subtle red inserts on the lower half of the body along with blacked-out pillars, roof and ORVMs. The rear profile of the i20 N Line grabs attention with the new twin exhaust tips, blacked-out treatment and roof-mounted spoiler. The i20 N Line also gets some new colour options in the Indian market.

Hyundai i20 Front Side Profile

Now, if we see the regular i20 turbo, so it gets projector headlights with LED DRLs, Hyundai's signature cascading grille with piano black inserts and a more subtle bumper design. The side profile gets dual-tone alloy wheels but they aren't as attractive as the one we get to see on the N Line version. It also gets a lot of chrome accents. At the rear, it gets LED taillights with a connecting chrome strip and black inserts on the lower part of the body.

Interior

Like the outside, on the inside too, the new i20 N Line gets a host of updates. The new i20 N Line gets updated upholstery with N badges and contrasting red stitching on the seats, dashboard and steering wheel that gives it a nice sporty appeal. The leather treatment can be observed on the steering wheel and the gear knob. All in all, it is a nice place to be in and feels premium.

Hyundai i20 Interior

In terms of features, the all-new Hyundai i20 N Line gets a large 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. It is also equipped with Hyundai's new BlueLink connected car technology, automatic climate control, air purifier, rear AC vents, digital instrument cluster, ambient lighting, an electric sunroof, etc. These features are available on the top-spec variants of the regular Hyundai i20 too.

Safety

The Hyundai i20 Turbo is well equipped with six airbags, anti-lock braking system with electronic brake-force distribution, traction control, hill hold control, electronic stability program, rear parking sensors and more.
