Hyundai Venue is a very popular compact-SUV in the Indian market. The Venue was launched in April 2019 and till date, more than one lakh Venue SUVs have already been sold in the Indian market. Just a few weeks ago, the company also launched the Sport Trim of the Venue and it also became the first car in India to get iMT or Intelligent Manual Transmission. We all know Kia and Hyundai have a lot of things in common as they fall under the same umbrella. So, will the Hyundai Venue get a Diesel Automatic version soon?
Recently, the Kia Sonet sub-compact SUV was launched in the Indian market and just like all other Hyundai-Kia cars, the Venue and the Sonet also have a lot of things in common. Both these sub-4-metre compact SUVs are based on the same platform, they get the same powerplant and have similar features too. However, there are some differences. The Sonet is more feature-loaded and a bit more pricey too. Also, when it comes to the engine and gearbox combination, both these sub-compact SUVs have differentiating factors.
Talking about powertrains, both of them get a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that develops 83 PS of power and 115 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox only. The next engine option is a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol unit. This 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor churns out 100 PS of power and 172 Nm of torque. In Venue, this 1.0-litre turbo petrol motor comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox, a 7-speed DCT and a 6-speed iMT. However, the Sonet gets a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT only.

Further, when it comes to the diesel engine, both these compact SUVs get a 1.5-litre oil-burner. This 1.5-litre diesel engine with WGT or Waste Gas Turbocharger churns out 100 PS of power and 240 Nm of peak torque. This mill comes mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox. At present, in the Venue, we don't have a choice of an automatic transmission but the Sonet gets it. The Kia Sonet gets the same 1.5-litre diesel engine but with VGT or Variable Geometry Turbocharger that churns out 115 PS of power and 250 Nm of peak torque. It comes mated to a segment-first 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
As we all know, these sister-concern South Korean car manufacturers share everything. So, it is highly probable that this 1.5-litre diesel engine with VGT and 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission will make its debut in the Hyundai Venue very soon. Hyundai might launch this engine & gearbox combination with the Venue to lure more buyers and to boost its sales even further. We believe Hyundai will launch the Diesel Automatic version of the Venue around the festive season or by the end of this year.

The Diesel Automatic version will demand around one lakh premium over the Diesel Manual variants. Currently, the Hyundai Venue is priced between Rs. 6.75 lakhs - Rs. 11.57 lakhs while the Kia Sonet retails between Rs. 6.71 lakhs - Rs. 11.99 lakhs. All prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi.
