The Lamborghini Urus Evo will be the first facelift since its debut in 2018. This will be followed by a hybrid drivetrain update, before finally becoming an electric SUV.
Lamborghinis second SUV, the Urus is slated for its first mid-cycle facelift wherein its weight will be reduced and engine power will increase. The new model will be called the Urus Evo, and it is slated to launch sometime in 2023. In India, the Lamborghini Urus was launched a year later after its worldwide debut in 2017, and it is one of the most sold Lamborghini models.
In 2021, Lamborghini India crossed the 300-units sales milestone, out of which 100 were just Urus. So, its no secret that the Urus SUV is a very important model for Lamborghini. And it is with this prospect that the Sant'Agata Bolognese-based company has come up with a road map for the Urus future until 2028. The following news was confirmed by the companys CEO Stephan Winkelmann. He stated in an interview that by 2024 the Urus will get two updates, and finally by 2028 it will have a completely electric drivetrain.
As part of those two initial updates, the Urus Evo will be the first one. The 2023 Lamborghini Urus Evo might implement several carbon fiber bits to its body panels, to make it lighter than it current kerb weight of 2,200 kgs. It will also pack in a more powerful and revised twin-turbocharged V8 engine that will produce more power than its current output of 650 bhp. This will be followed with the adoption of a hybrid powertrain in 2024. Now, whether itll be sold alongside its turbo-engine versions or not, remains to be seen.
Finally, in the second half of the decade the Urus will become a completely electric SUV. The details of the new SUV are yet to be confirmed. But given that it will be a Lamborghini, expect neck bending performance. Currently, the Volkswagen Group has the Audi e-tron SUV on sale here in India. And given how the Urus shares the Q8s platform and tech, the future Urus electric SUV might also share something similar on the lines of the e-tron SUV.
The Audi e-tron SUV is powered by a 95 kWh battery attached to two electric motors on both axles. The power output is rated at 300 hp and 664 Nm of torque, alongside an all-wheel drivetrain. So, based on these specs, how much do you think the Lamborghini Urus electric will produce?
