Made in India Volkswagen Virtus Sedan Scores 5 Stars in Latin NCAP
  • Latin NCAP crash tested the India manufactured all-new Volkswagen Virtus
  • The low slung sedan bagged a 5 star safety rating
  • The vehicle is imported to Latin American markets and sits on the same platform with a slew of standard safety equipment.

Volkswagen Virtus sedan debuted in the Indian market in June 2022 and currently sells at a starting price of Rs. 11.32 lakh (ex-showroom). The sedan is yet to be tested by the GNCAP (Global New Car Assessment Program), however the Mexican spec Virtus which is manufactured in India has been crash tested by the Latin NCAP. The model is based on the same MQB A0 IN platform and comes loaded with 6 airbags as well as ESC as standard. Now lets have a look at how the Virtus sedan performed in the crash test.

Volkswagen Virtus: Latin NCAP Crash Test Results

The India made Volkswagen Virtus scored 5 stars and passed the crash test with flying colours. Taking a closer look at the crash test results reveals that the four wheeler scored 92% for both adult and child occupant protection. On the other hand, the score for pedestrian protection and safety assist systems stands at 53% and 85% respectively.

According to Latin NCAP crash test report, the protection for driver's and passenger's head was rated as good. The observation was quite similar for driver and passenger's other body parts such as neck, chest and knees. The side impact test revealed that the head, abdomen and pelvis protection was good while the chest protection was adequate. The body shell and footwell area was rated as stable and capable of withstanding further loadings. Along with this, the car complied with UN 127 pedestrian protection regulations.

In addition to this, Latin NCAP also performed the moose test and the sedan was able to achieve speeds upto 95 kmph under ADAC ( Allgemeiner Deutscher Automobil-Club) and and 70 km/h under consumer magazine.

For the record, the Volkswagen Taigun and Skoda Kushaq were recently crash tested by GNCAP. Both the vehicles are based on the familiar MQB A0 IN platform and scored 5 stars in the crash test results.

Verdict: Volkswagen Virtus Latin NCAP crash test score was quite predictable after the German SUV twins scored a familiar crash test rating in the GNCAP. Having said that, we believe that the Virtus sold in India which is equipped with two airbags as standard, will also score 5 stars in the GNCAP crash test.
