Mahindra Temporarily Renames BE 6e To 'BE 6' But There's More
Although Mahindra initially announced that its new electric SUV, will be renamed the Mahindra BE 6 for now, the company is preparing to challenge the trademark rights in court. Mahindra has argued that the "BE 6e" trademark was registered under Class 12, which pertains to vehicles, while the "6e" trademark registered by InterGlobe Aviation Limited (operator of IndiGo Airlines) falls under a different class. Furthermore, Mahindra's trademark specifically covers the BE 6e name, not the standalone 6E term.
As per an official statement issued by Mahindra, it said, We believe it differs fundamentally from IndiGo's '6E,' which represents an airline, eliminating any risk of confusion. The distinct styling further emphasizes its uniqueness. Our registration application is for an entirely different industry sector and product and hence, we do not see any conflict. We also find it unseemly that two large, Indian multinationals should engage in a distracting and unnecessary conflict when in fact we should be championing each other's growth and expansion.'

Verdict
This legal battle is something that a few people anticipated and was something brewing for a long time. However, weighing in both sides, there seems to be reasonable grounds for the contest from both corners. However, since the matter is sub judice, we should wait and let the verdict decide who's right and who falls short of their claims.
