Mahindra Thar 5-Door: Production Started, Unofficial Bookings Open

As per an online report, the production of Thar 5-door has commenced. This upcoming, much-awaited Thar is being produced at Mahindra's Chakan plant. Mahindra has been road-testing it for a long time, and the repeated test mules were becoming a regular site in different parts of the country. Now, ahead of its official launch which is planned on August 15, the production has begun. The source also claims that Mahindra is aiming to produce 5,000-6,000 units monthly, to reduce the waiting time.

Additionally, the reports also hint that dealers have silently started accepting unofficial booking amounts for the new Thar. Speaking of its changes, it'll be based on a new platform that is likely to be a tweaked version of the Scorpio N. It is going to be offered in multiple variants with options of captain seats and a single bench for the second row. The cabin will get features like a digital instrument console, a bigger infotainment screen, a panoramic sunroof, a new steering wheel, and more.

Engine, Gearbox, Launch Date, Price

Powering the Thar 5-door model would be the similar engine options for the Thar 3-door. It'll get similar power figures but the ECU tuning for both, the 2.2-litre mHawk diesel, and the 2.0-litre petrol engine, would be different. It is likely to be sold with an RWD option as well, which is suspected to be offered with a 1.5-litre mHawk diesel engine. Gearbox choices will include a 6-speed MT and a 6-speed AT torque converter.

Mahindra has sent 'Block Your Date' invites to the media for August 15. It is very likely that the 5-door Thar could be launched as the Armada SUV name. How more iconic could it be, a new Thar with an iconic name launching on Independence Day, right? The expected pricing of Thar 5-door would be in the likes of Rs 16-22 lakh.
