Mahindra & Mahindra is one of India's biggest passenger and commercial vehicle manufacturers. They have managed to keep up well with the competition maintaining their legacy all across their portfolio. Mahindra is a brand that pays heed to customer feedback and does present upmarket solutions with its offerings. Long back in 2010, when Mahindra acquired Reva, they were clear of their vision to bring in an electric vehicle in the country by developing the e2o and eVerito, which were one of the first electric vehicles in India. After plenty of news about the eKUV100 EV testing, we now have the Mahindra XUV 300 EV spied testing on the road dressed in heavy camouflage.
With the rear profile being similar to that of the on-going XUV 300, anyone could have mistaken it to be the one with an IC engine. Even for the test variants, it wasn't equipped with any kind of aerodynamically designed alloy wheels being used to reduce drag and unsprung mass, but was running on found on crude steel rims. The charging socket cutout on the left fender made it easy to identify it to be an electric vehicle.
2023 Mahindra XUV 300 Electric would be based on the same platform as that of the on-going XUV 300 on sale with minor changes in the floor panels to accommodate the battery pack. It is expected to power the front wheels with a single motor putting out 130 bhp with a 40kWh battery and a range of 300km on a single charge.
Mahindra XUV 300 EV would compete with the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV and Hyundai Kona in terms of the electric drivetrains on offer. With Mahindra Electric shifting the eKUV100 and eVerito to the commercial segment, this would be the first official offering in terms of modern-day competition in the market.
