The compact SUV segment has always been on fire for the past few years. The Brezza remained a clean winner till Hyundai launched their missile in the form of the Venue last year. This one gave the segment leader a tough fight until Maruti responded back with a facelift Brezza in the month of February. Now that the lockdown is lifting off, we have managed to get both the SUVs in the same frame for a quick exterior and interior comparison. So which among the two should you put your money on? Hit the play button on our Maruti Brezza 2020 Vs Hyundai Venue video below or continue to scroll through the article.
Do note that while Maruti Brezza got an update this year for 2020, the Venue remains unchanged since its launch and we don't have a complaint with that. Both these compact SUV models continue to sell in high numbers and have their own pros and cons.
Maruti Brezza 2020 Vs Hyundai Venue: Exteriors

Both the cars compete in the sub 4m compact SUV segment and hence the overall length remains the same. However, the Brezza looks substantial due to its extra width and taller height. Talking of which, this SUV has been in the market for years but with the 2020 update, manages to look fresh. We love the new DRLs which also do double up as indicators and look fab! The alloy wheel design is different and the grille has been tweaked as well.
The Venue, on the other hand, is the new, funky kid in town. It manages to look bling with the squarish DRLs and a sharp front-end. True it isn't as large as the Brezza but with loud colours on offer, the Venue does turn heads on the road.
Maruti Brezza 2020 Vs Hyundai Venue: Interiors
Thanks to generous dimensions, the cabin of the Brezza feels roomier than that of the Venue. This is even more true in terms of headroom on offer. The cabin remains largely unchanged as compared to the older Brezza and we aren't complaining at all. Feature list is good but not as impressive as the Venue's. At the back, getting in is easy but the lack of air-vents is a big miss in the updated model.
This gets us to the baby Hyundai - from a sunroof to wireless charging and even rear a/c vents, this one is popular among those who want to be pampered. The feature list is one of the highlights for this car. The cabin design, as well as touch and feel, is good and the only shortcoming I see is the limited headroom on offer. At the back, the Venue also manages to offer slightly more knee room as seen in the video above.
Maruti Brezza 2020 Vs Hyundai Venue: Engines

This is where both these compact SUVs differ a lot. Maruti has stopped the manufacturing of diesel cars in India post the BS6 emission norms came into play earlier this year. Hence, the Brezza now comes with a petrol-only option. This is the same 1.5 unit that powers the Ertiga, XL6 and the Ciaz. It gets the mild hybrid tech with the automatic gearbox option and makes a healthy 105 PS along with 138 Nm of torque. The engine remains largely unstressed and offers oodles of torque for city runs. The 4-speed auto might sound outdated for some but surprisingly, makes the best use of the big 1.5 motor and offers excellent driveability.
The Venue, on the other hand, comes with three different engine options. These include one diesel, the 1.5 unit that is also seen in other Hyundai and Kia offerings and two different petrol options. The 1.2 naturally aspirated (non-turbo) is a reliable unit that is also seen in the Grand i10, i20, Aura and the NIOS. The 1.0 GDI (turbo petrol) is great on performance and is offered with both a 6-speed manual as well as a 7 speed DCT automatic gearbox. Want thrills? Pick this one up!
Maruti Brezza 2020 Vs Hyundai Venue: Verdict
The Venue has a lower entry price point with the range starting from Rs 6.7 lakh onwards, about 65k less than the Brezza's base model. However, this Venue is the 1.2 petrol that has an average performance. The top-end models, however, are feature-loaded, offer a great drive and look nice too. The Brezza, on the other hand, remains a well-rounded product, we love the torquey 1.5 engine and ride remains slightly more comfortable. In the end, you can't go wrong with either of the two offerings. Which one would you pick? Share your opinion in our Hyundai Whatsapp Group or Maruti Whatsapp Group.
