Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC is scheduled for India launch on the upcoming September 30. It is a more luxurious variant of the newly launched premium EV.
Mercedes-Benz India is on a roll for EVs. The German luxury car brand launched its flagship electric sedan yesterday in India. The Mercedes-Benz EQS 53 AMG has made its debut at Rs 2.45 Crore. However, its other variant i.e. the EQS 580 4MATIC is scheduled for launch on the upcoming September 30 in India. The 580 will come via the CKD route while the AMG shall be sold as CBU only.

Mercedes-Benz EQS 580 4MATIC Details
The upcoming 580 is going to become the first ever locally assembled electric Mercedes in India. While the AMG was launched yesterday itself, it attracted a lot of eyes globally. However, the absence of the EQS 580 was a more bigger question. Now, as per the reported source, Mercedes has revealed its launch date for India.
Mind you, Mercedes is going to introduce a lot os new EVs in India in the next 5 years. At the launch of EQS, the brand revealed its hardcore EV conversion plans. Additionally, this year itself will witness the introduction of two more EVs. One is destined to be the EQA premium sedan and the other will be the EQB. As per the company, the EQB will be the first 7-seater premium electric SUV in India.
Speaking of the EQS 580 4MATIC, it is already on sale in some of the global markets. It is a more luxury-oriented variant of the EQS platform. However, it uses the same EVA2 platform for construction but there are some differences from its AMG sibling. The primary difference is the less coefficient of drag of 0.20. Meanwhile, the AMG has a COD of 0.23 due to its bigger 21-inch wheels.
We are expecting that the 580 shall come with a dual-coach paint style as seen on the S-Class Maybach. However, the colour options are going to be limited as the AMG also comes with only 3 colour options.
Powertrain
The EQS 580 is based on the same 107.8kWh battery pack as the AMG variant. This is claimed to be the biggest ever battery pack used on any electric car ever. Additionally, this battery pack has a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 770 km per charge. This possibly means that the EQS can easily do above 650 km on a single charge. It is simply outstanding considering the electric cars available on sale in India right now.
The lower drag coefficient of the 580 might help it to achieve more driving range than its AMG sibling. Meanwhile, this battery pack is powerful as well. It can produce a peak power of up to 523 bhp and 856 Nm of peak torque. Mercedes has equipped it with 5 various driving modes as well.

Price & Rivals
The EQS 53 AMG has been launched at Rs 2.45 crore ex-showroom. Meanwhile, the expected price for the EQS 580 is around Rs 2.5 crore. Its main rivals in India are - Audi e-Tron GT & Porsche Taycan.
