MG Motor India has announced that the MG Astor will be unveiled on September 15, 2021. The much awaited SUV will finally make its global debut in India.

MG Astor will compete against the likes of Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Skoda Kushaq and the soon-to-be-launched Volkswagen Taigun. MG Astor will come equipped with several segment-first features to give an upper hand to its rivals. MG, for the first time on any of its vehicle here, will introduce three steering modes Dynamic, Normal and Urban. The SUV will also come equipped with features such as rain sensing wipers, 6-way electrically adjustable driver seat, manually adjustable co-passenger seat, panoramic sunroof and leather upholstery for seats.
The upcoming compact SUV is likely to be powered with two petrol engine options a 1.5-litre 4-cylinder naturally-aspirated petrol engine and a 1.3-litre turbocharged petrol engine. The naturally-aspirated 1.5 petrol engine will produce around 120bhp and 150 Nm of torque whereas the turbocharged engine will be capable of producing 163bhp of power and 230 Nm of torque. While the bigger motor will be available with manual and automatic gearbox options, the turbo offering will be on sale only with an auto 'box.
Glancing at the exterior of the new MG Astor, it has a chromed hexagonal grille, LED headlamps with DRLs (Daytime Running Lamps) that can also be used as turn indicators, and LED tail-lights. Even the entry-level trims are likely to come with features like 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system and other connectivity features. The new model will be equipped with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard in all variants.
The infotainment system installed in the MG Astor will come with smartphone connectivity along with personal AI-assistant which will also have the access to music/video applications like the JioSaavn app. It also has some first-in-segment Autonomous Level-2 technology. The compact SUV will come equipped with the Level-2 ADAS features which will include autonomous emergency braking system, ESP (Electronic Stability Program), forward collision warning, speed limit assist, adaptive cruise control, rear drive assist, blind spot detection, lane keeping assist and automatic high-beam lighting system.

The latest personal AI-assistant presents human emotions and voices. It can give detailed information on every topic through Wikipedia to engage the people in the car and is also powered by i-Smart Hub.
The i-Smart Hub system hosts subscriptions and services such as maps and navigation with MapMyIndia, Jio connectivity and the Blockchain protected vehicle digital passport by KoineArth. Its owners will also get access to a feature of reserving a parking slot through a head unit (powered by Park+ select cities to begin with) in the car. MG Astor Midsized SUV will be competitive in its segment.
