MG Motors entered the Indian market with the launch of the MG Hector mid-size SUV in June 2019. The Hector became an instant hit and over the years, it received several updates. The company also launched several new products like the Hector Plus, ZS EV and its flagship SUV - MG Gloster. Now, MG Motor India is gearing up to launch the petrol-powered version of the ZS mid-size SUV in the country and it will be rechristened as the MG Astor. The upcoming MG Astor has been recently spied in its full glory on the test.
MG Astor - Design and Dimensions
The new MG Astor will be the petrol-powered version of the MG ZS Electric Car which is already on sale in India. So, in terms of looks, the Astor will be identical to the ZS EV. However, it will get some unique design elements too. For instance, the new spy images reveal that it will get a unique design for the hexagonal grille along with LED headlights with a projector set-up and hook-shaped LED DRLs which will also double up as turn indicators. It will feature red brake callipers, machined-cut alloy wheels and body cladding all around with skid plates at the front and rear for that rugged appeal.
MG Astor - Engine Specifications
The upcoming MG Astor might get two petrol engines in the Indian market. It might be powered by a BS6 compliant 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that will churn out 120 PS of power and 150 Nm of torque. It will come mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox or a CVT. It might also get the very powerful 1.3-litre turbo petrol engine. This turbo petrol motor will churn out a whopping 163 PS of maximum power and 160 Nm of peak torque. It will come mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox and will get an automatic transmission too. There might not be any diesel engine on offer.
