MG Motor has started accepting bookings for the Windsor EV with a token amount of Rs 11,000. This electric crossover, launched last month, features an innovative Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. With BaaS, buyers can purchase the car without the battery and rent the battery separately at Rs 3.5 per km. This approach aims to make the vehicle more affordable by reducing the initial purchase cost. Monthly rental payments for the battery will depend on usage. For those who prefer, theres also the option to buy the vehicle with the battery included. before heading deeper into the details, make sure you are a part of our 91Wheels Whatsapp Channel, specifically curated for all the avid petrolheads to never miss out on any automotive updates.

Range And Specs
The MG Windsor EV in India comes with a 38 kWh LFP battery, delivering 136 PS of power and 200 Nm of torque, and offering a maximum range of 331 km on a full charge. First-time buyers will enjoy a lifetime battery warranty and a complimentary one-year charging facility at MG eHUB locations. Additionally, the vehicle includes a special Ownership Program to enhance the customer experience. However, if you wish to own it all at once, there's an option for that as well.
Even though it lacks a direct competitor and comes with a unique ownership route, its pricing positions it alongside models like the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Curvv EV, and more.
Verdict
MG Windsor EV with its battery rental plan has shattered the myths of what an entry-level variant of an EV can offer. While it gives you that flexibility of an affordable take home ownership, a rental is soemthing that does not sit well with the psychology of the Indian buyers. Time and again this strategy has been toyed with, only failing to gain traction as the brands expected it to be. And for that, the ful ownership plan is what I believe will be more successful.
