It has been reported that the Nissan Magnite has scored 4 stars in the latest ASEAN NCAP test. The report was revealed on December 30, 2020.
Nissan launched the Magnite in India on 2nd December 2020 at an introductory starting price of rupees 4.99 lakhs. The pricing coupled with a decent amount of features meant that the Indian market warmed up to it immediately.
Now that the Nissan is readying the Magnite for a launch in the south-east Asian markets, they got the Magnite crash-tested by the ASEAN NCAP authorities prior to the commencement of its sales in Indonesia. It is to be noted here that it is yet to be clarified whether the model tested was the same as the Indian spec Magnite

What exactly is the ASEAN NCAP?
New Car Assessment Programme is a programme adopted by regions or countries to test vehicles for the safety parameters before they are sold in that particular region or country. There are multiple NCAP agencies all across the world who test vehicles. Some of these include the Global NCAP (GNCAP), ASEAN NCAP, Australian NCAP (ANCAP) etc. The Indian Government too aims to introduce its own vehicle safety program that is christened the BNVSAP - Bharat New Vehicle Safety Assessment Programme. All cars which will be sold in India will have to pass the safety norms laid under this scheme.
The Magnite is underpinned by the CMF A+ platform of Nissan-Renault which is based on the CMF A platform that underpins the Datsun Go and the Renault Kwid. The CMF-A platform received criticism across the automobile industry when the Kwid was awarded a 0-star rating in the Global NCAP test. It is also reported that Nissan India would be sending the Magnite for testing in Global NCAP as well.
The Magnite has already become a runaway success that Nissan-Renault India was hoping for. In order to cope up with the increasing demand, Nissan has already decided to ramp up the production. Reportedly, Nissan and its dealer partners have hired 1500 people to cope up with the demand for the Magnite.
Partners to Nissan, Renault too would be hoping for a similar response when they happen to launch the Kiger later this month. They will also be launching the Triber with a Turbo petrol option. The Triber turbo petrol would be targetted at those who are looking for an affordable car that is decently powerful but also comes with an added dose of practicality.

The Magnite getting 4 stars in ASEAN NCAP comes at a time when a lot of manufacturers are getting criticized for being too lackadaisical on the safety front. This rating is also helping in the Magnite being able to maintain the positive publicity that has surrounded it since its time of launch.
