Looks
By the looks then both the cars appeal to a certain amount of audience. Kia's Sonet is months older and packs in the butch SUV design with good profile diamond cut alloy wheels whereas Magnite clearly stands out from its good looks.

Yes, the huge grille with L shaped LED DRLs and the sleek projector headlights really give it a good stance on the Indian roads. The chrome elements on either side of the grill along with the chrome present on the fog light housing gives it a nice touch.
Comparing on the side profile then it is the Ka Sonet which looks better with its slightly wider alloy wheels. Both the SUVs receive dual tone treatment for the alloys but the one present in Magnite caught our eye. Both the SUVs receive faux skid plate at the rear for a sportier look. But then again it is the new kid Magnite which wins the point for refreshed looks.
Engine Options
Now where both the SUVs are alike is when we talk about turbo petrol engines. Yes, both Sonet and Magnite get the 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine in different tunes. The former makes as much as 118 bhp with 172 Nm of peak torque while the latter produces 99 bhp with 160 Nm.
While the Magnite gets a standard 5-speed manual gearbox, the Sonet continues with a 6-speed iMT as semi-automatic. For the proper automatic, Nissan has introduced first in segment CVT gearbox (torque 152 Nm) while the Sonet comes with a 7-speed DCT unit.

Nissan will also bring a regular non-turbo 1.0L petrol engine which makes as much as 72 PS with 96 Nm of peak torque. While Kia Sonet gets an edge with 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol and the 1.5L diesel unit in two states of tune.
Prices
Kia offers the base version of the Sonet for as low as Rs 6.71 lakh while the top model fetches till Rs 12.89 lakh. Yes, the top variant is on a higher side but it surely comes with all the bells and whistles one need in an SUV. On the other hand, reports suggest that Nissan might price the lower variant of Mganite for as low as Rs 5.50 lakh and if that is true then it's really a good deal for people wanting to own an SUV in a budget. The car will be launched on December 2 and let's see what more it has to offer!
