Its a well known fact that Renault and Nissan work closely around the world in various markets for sharing of platforms and engines. The same has been seen in India in the past (Micra / Pulse, Scala / Sunny, Terrano / Duster) and now the same sharing will be seen in the engines of the Triber and the Magnite. With specs of the latter now out, its fair to assume that Renault Triber Turbo ARAI fuel economy figure will be over 20kmpl. Why so? Read on...
Firstly, both the cars have a similar weight - while the Triber weighs in at about 947kg, the Magnite is slightly lighter at 939kg. Now as seen in the table above, the ARAI rated fuel economy for the naturally aspirated 999cc Triber stands at 19 kmpl as against 18.75 kmpl for the same engine in the Magnite which means it will feel peppier in the Nissan SUV. Assuming that Renault will follow the same (soft) tune-up and gear ratios with the Triber Turbo, it will definitely deliver a higher figure than its SUV sibling, the Magnite turbo. This one by the way offers 20kmpl as seen above so its safe to assume a higher figure of 20-20.5 kmpl for the Renault Triber Turbo ARAI fuel economy number.
In terms of power and torque, the Triber Turbo will deliver 100PS of power and 160Nm of torque. These figures are 38% and 64% higher than that of the naturally aspirated engine - brilliant! What's more, peak power and torque figures in the turbo version of the same engine are delivered at a lower engine speed which means this will be hoot to drive in flowing traffic. The potent mid-range will come handy for such driving conditions as well as while hitting a set of curves with smooth tarmac.
While it was earlier reported that Renault would launch the turbo Triber by October, the same seems to have been delayed now. The car itself has been a great success for Renault, offering high quality interiors (for the price) and a practical cabin with seating for 5+2.
