Royal Enfield Shotgun 650 - What To Expect?
Currently, RE sells three different models in the 650cc lineup. While Interceptor & Continental GT have been on sale for a long, the Super Meteor 650 was launched recently. However, all of these cater to different segments. Meanwhile, the Shotgun 650 will be another addition to this lineup. But, it will be a roadster motorcycle that will offer comfort and an upright riding posture. While some reports suggest that RE might rename it to Classic 650; we can't be sure of it until now.
Now, what to expect from it? Well, as seen in the spy pics, it will get a reworked body frame. The front end uses a different setup of wheels size. However, the wheels are alloyed on both ends; it also gets bigger disc brakes that might have been carried forward from the Super Meteor. The front suspension is a USD unit and the LED headlight features a small cowl as well. It also gets a sculpted fuel tank and split seats. The rear design is again similar to the Super Meteor to an extent but the tyre size is different here.
On the mechanical front, it is going to feature the same 648cc parallel twin. This engine makes a peak power of 47 bhp & a peak torque of 52 Nm. RE shall revise these numbers and gear ratios as well to adjust with its weight & dimensions. In terms of features, we expect LED lights & a semi-digital instrument console with a USB charging port. Bluetooth connectivity for smartphones & tripper navigation can also be expected on it but as an accessory.
Verdict
The Shotgun 650 is aimed to cater the customers who want a neo-retro bike that has enough punch to do high-speed runs as well. Also, the launch of Shotgun will open a new vertical for RE to earn new customers. While the test bike suggests to us that it is nearing production; we still believe that it is still a long way from its launch. RE might globally debut the Shotgun by early 2024. Before it, RE Himalayan 450 is planned for the international & domestic markets.
