Skoda Kylaq: The Name
Skoda says the name 'Kylaq' has been derived from the Sanskrit word for 'crystal', taking inspiration from Mt. Kailash. This is keeping in line with its big brother Kushaq, which derives its name from the Sanskrit word for 'emperor.'

Skoda Kylaq Platform and Engine
The Skoda Kylaq shares the same MQB-A0-IN platform with the Kushaq and the Slavia. However, unlike the Kushaq and the Slavia, the Kylaq will only be powered by the smaller 1.0-litre TSI petrol powertrain, possibly in the same state of tune, producing 113bhp and 178Nm of torque. You will be able to opt it with a 6-speed manual transmission and likely a torque-converter automatic.
Skoda Kylaq Design
Earlier this year, Skoda gave us a brief glimpse of what the Kylaq will look like, and a full design reveal is set to take place at its global unveil in 2025. The Kylaq will be the first car to implement Skoda's newest 'Modern Solids' design language, and as such it will follow modern design trends, featuring bits like headlamps placed below the DRL strip, which could possibly also be a full-length LED strip. Skoda also says that the sides and the rear of the car will feature hexagonal patterns.

Skoda Kylaq Interiors and Features
While not much is known about the interiors or the equipment of the Kylaq just yet, we can expect the Kylaq to come packed with equipment such as a 360-degree camera, climate control, some ADAS capabilities and more, in order to fend off rivals that also pack similar levels of equipment.
Skoda Kylaq Rivals and Pricing
The Skoda Kylaq is entering a hotly-contested segment, competing against the likes of the Hyundai Venue, Tata Nexon, Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Maruti Suzuki Fronx, Mahindra XUV 3XO, Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, and the Renault Kiger. The Skoda Kylaq is likely to fit within the Rs 7 lakh-Rs 15 lakh price bracket, thus making the Czech brand accessible to a wider range of customers.
Verdict
The Kylaq is set to be Skoda's most affordable car in India. Skoda is aiming for high localisation levels, and the Kylaq should help it penetrate deeper into the Indian market, particularly into Tier-3 cities. However, aggressive pricing will be key for the Skoda Kylaq's success.
