Skoda Superb Comeback: How and Why?
Not long ago, Superb was discontinued due to the BS6 phase-2 emission norms. Now, Skoda will bring back the luxury sedan through a full-import route. The car will be launched on April 3 in India. Helping here is the GSR 870 rule of import by the government. Under it, a company can import up to 2,500 units without getting the product homologated.
The important thing to note is that the third-gen Superb will be launched not the newest-gen. The fourth-gen model that is on sale currently in the global markets will be launched next year in India. The Indian-spec, for now, will be available only in a single Laurin & Klement trim. This top-spec version gets features like ADAS, a parking-assist system, a bigger infotainment screen, and more.

Skoda Superb: Engine, Price, and Rivals
As the return of Superb will be a third-gen one, the engine will remain unchanged from the previously discontinued model. It'll be powered via a 2.0-lt, turbo-petrol unit that makes a peak output of 190 bhp and a peak torque of 320 Nm. It'll get a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox that will help it achieve a top speed of more than 200 kmph.
Previously when the Superb was on sale, it was priced from Rs 34.19 lakh. Now, the full-import route means it'll be very well priced around Rs 45 lakh. The only competitor it'll have upon its launch is the Toyota Camry Hybrid.
Verdict
Skoda has become aggressive and serious for the Indian market with its new India 2.5 strategy. The announcement of an upcoming small SUV, now the return of Superb, and the plans of Octavia return; indicate that the 2024-25 year is going to be exciting for the Skoda fans in India.
