32 Kmpl Suzuki Swift Hybrid Coming To The 2020 Auto Expo

Maruti Suzuki has a series of line-up at the 2020 Auto Expo and one such main attraction is the Swift Hybrid. Yes, with the country moving towards cleaner emission norms, the Suzuki Swift Hybrid would be a perfect replacement of the soon to be discontinued 1.3L DDiS engine.

The third-generation Swift was unveiled globally in 2017 and brought to the Indian market at the 2018 Auto Expo. It came with a 1.2L petrol and 1.3L turbocharged diesel engine. While the former continues to see the light of BS6, the oil burner will be axed out. Hence, we are considering that the Suzuki Swift Hybrid could take its place and will be showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo.

Sharing more details about the Swift Hybrid then it returns a fuel economy of 32 kmpl according to the Japanese Cycle. It comes in two trims - SG and SL. Like the other Maruti cars, it is not a mild-hybrid but is a proper hybrid with higher fuel economy. The higher economy is due to the presence of a proper electric motor that takes off load from the main petrol unit.

While the design and features are the same as conventional fuel, it is the mechanical changes and advanced technologies which differ. Swift Hybrid gets a 1.2-litre petrol motor which churns out 89 bhp and gets mated to a 10kW electric motor. The latter sends power to the front wheels. It gets mated to a 5-speed AMT gearbox.

The Swift hybrid is a smart car and we say it because the hatchback can detect low road conditions. Now, what it means that the petrol motor will be shut when the car is coasting and will run solely on the electric motor only for a few metres.

Cosmetically, the car remains more or less the same, save for the 'Hybrid' badging at the front fender. And on the inside, you'll notice blue colour highlight on the gear selector and even on the instrument cluster. The SL trim of the Swift Hybrid comes with paddle shifters.

Maruti Suzuki can think of bringing the Swift Hybrid to the Indian market as it'll be more effective than the diesel engine. If not, the Indian carmaker has to bring in cheaper alternatives like CNG kits on their vehicles to improve sales.
