As the Indian market is noticing a shift towards electric mobility or a green future, CNG is also evolving with time. As seen the prices of fuels are on the rise and fuel efficiency is becoming an important point of concern. Though Tata has already confirmed that by 2022 it will introduce Tiago CNG to the market, today we have a Tata Punch that is the first one in the market with an aftermarket fitted CNG.
The CNG kit installed in this punch is costing around Rs 62,000 that is delivering an efficiency of 29 km/kg which makes the micro-SUV quite affordable. The company recently introduced Punch in the market with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine that is capable of producing 86PS of maximum power and 113 Nm of peak torque mated to a six-speed AMT and six-speed manual gearbox.
As compared to earlier times, CNG cars have started gaining popularity. With the installation of a CNG kit the owner might have felt the car to be less powerful than before. Tata Motors is also planning to launch CNG variants of its hatchbacks in India but if someone wants it on a priority basis the kits are also available in the market.
Ashish Sengar, the owner of the car has also shared the images of his car with a CNG kit installed from the market. The 9kg kit has acquired almost half of the place in the boot and only the spare wheel can be placed in the leftover space. A small luggage bag can only be placed on the left or right side of the boot.
If someone is willing to make his/her car a fuel-efficient one, CNG kits are the best to reduce your running costs. The Punch CNG can be great if you have a high running in the city but if you are someone who travels a lot on the highways, there are better alternatives available in the market.
With the year coming to an end, Tata is now planning to introduce more engine choices with the Punch. It is expected to come with a 1.2-litre turbo petrol engine and a 1.5-litre turbocharged diesel engine. The diesel variant of Punch is also spotted testing and it is expected to make its entry by 2022.
