Tata Motors is surely on a path of diversification and this time around it's the Altroz that has been put under the belt. If some reports are to be believed, Tata Altroz Sport is on its way and it will debut at the 2023 Auto Expo. This means that a more performance-oriented version of Tata Altroz will be launched by the Indian carmaker that will square off with the Hyundai i20 N-Line.

Tata Altroz Sport: More Powerful Engine?
Tata Motors launched the Altroz hatchback in the Indian market back in the year 2020, which was followed by the launch of the Altroz i-Turbo in the year 2021. The company also introduced the Tata Altroz DCA (automatic) in 2022. The premium hatchback currently retails in the price range of Rs. 6.25 lakh to Rs. 10.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
Under the hood, the Tata Altroz Sport will draw power from a 1.2-litre Revotron turbo petrol engine, which will be straight lift-off from the Nexon SUV. In terms of specs, it will carry the same state of tune with 118 bhp and 170 Nm of peak torque. As opposed to the regular hatchback, the transmission duties on the Sport variant will be done by a 6-speed manual unit. For reference, in the i-Turbo guise, the Altroz puts out 108 bhp and 140 Nm of peak torque.
Tata Altroz Sport: Changes And Rivals
Apart from the powertrain, the Altroz Sport will feature a slew of subtle cosmetic changes inside out. These include a new set of alloy wheels, sporty design touches to the front grille, bumpers and a special badging to denote the vehicle's identity. Inside the cabin, Tata Motors can do away with a new sporty theme for the dashboard as well as the upholstery, along with minor changes here and there. Some minor changes to the suspension and steering geometry can also be part of the package.
Talking about its competition, Tata Altroz Sport is aimed squarely at the Hyundai i20 N-Line. It is powered by a 1.0-litre tGDi petrol engine, putting out 120 bhp and 172 Nm of peak torque. Transmission options on offer with the sporty premium hatchback include a 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT unit.
Verdict: The Tata Altroz Sport can be a great product, given that the pricing is on point. As it will directly rival the Hyundai i20 N-line, which skips a proper manual transmission, the 6-speed manual unit on the Altroz Sport will be a delight for enthusiasts. The package will be further spruced up if Tata Motors tweaks the suspension and steering setup, however, we have to wait till D-Day for this.
