Tata Motors ventured into the premium hatchback segment of the country earlier this year with the all-new Tata Altroz. The Altroz was launched in India in January 2020 and within a short period of time, it became a very popular car in the Indian market. There are several reasons to like this Tata hatchback but one of the main reasons for the Altroz's popularity is that it is the safest hatchback currently on sale in the country. Now, the company has recently teased the Tata Altroz on its social media handles. So, what's in the store? Will it be a new variant for the hatch, a special edition model or the highly-anticipated Altroz Turbo?
Tata Motors has teased the Altroz online on all its social media handles with the hashtag #YourSantaAltroz. There is a tag of Coming Soon too and it hints that Tata Motors is planning to launch something special related to Altroz this Christmas. Now, let's make some guesstimates as what could be in store for us? As you can see in the above-embedded video, there is a red-coloured Altroz which zoom past away. As the Altroz is moving at a fast pace, it hints that it might be the upcoming highly-anticipated Tata Altroz Turbo Petrol. The Altroz Turbo will be powered by a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre turbocharged petrol engine, borrowed from the Nexon but in a different state of tune.

This new turbo petrol motor will churn out around 110 PS of max. power at 5500 RPM and 140 Nm of peak torque between 1500-5500 RPM. The engine will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. Tata Motors will introduce a 7-speed (DCT) dual-clutch transmission too with the Altroz, most likely at a later point of time - by the first quarter of 2021. Next, our assumption is that the teased car might be a Special Edition variant of the Tata Altroz. That's because the Altroz will be completing its first anniversary next month in January 2021 and so Tata Motors might launch a celebratory edition variant of the car with some cosmetic upgrades. Finally, there is a possibility that it might be the upcoming Altroz XM+ Diesel but with some cosmetic tweaks.
The Tata Altroz XM+ Petrol was launched in November 2020 to boost the sales of the car during the festive season. The XM+ variant of the Altroz is the most value for money variant of the car and it gets a lot of goodies too. Upon its launch, the company said that the Tata Altroz XM+ Diesel will be launched in December 2020. It will be powered by the same BS6-compliant 1.5-litre, four-cylinder Revotorq diesel engine that powers the other trims of Altroz too. This motor churns out 90 PS of maximum power at 4000 RPM and 200 Nm of peak torque between 1250-3000 RPM. The oil-burner comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox only. The Petrol variants of the Tata Altroz are powered by a BS6-compliant 1.2-litre, three-cylinder mill.
